What happened to the faculty? By Suzanne Harmon November 01, 2005
Jack Johnson's song “Where Have All the Good People Gone” has played over and over in my head since the day I was informed by a faculty member of the exodus that occurred at a major school at USM. Given the current and future predicted dire need for the graduates from this school, I was speechless (although not without song) at this piece of information. How could such a thing happen? The faculty member speaking on this matter was of the opinion that money was the root of the exodus....
This is a nice column and represents a valid viewpoint. Personally,I would rather have a successful football team than have money spent on faculty salaries. I know most of the people who read this board disagree, but I feel like most of the ordinary Joe Blow taxpayers in this community agree with me.
Is no one telling her the story of Marie Farrell and the abuse of power by the administration--of the disenfranchisement of the college of nursing--of the Albertson's building--of the not so benign neglect of nursing? Salaries are an issue, but dedicated people will work for lower salaries if they feel they are valued--and that their work is making a difference. When the faculty is bashed, everyone loses.

Then you "feel" wrong. If you think the citizens of this state are more interested in entertainment than the education we are paying for with our tax dollars, you are mistaken and out of touch. This state, of all the states, can't afford to be fooled into selling our major resource (people) for pretty beads.
The Supreme Court, while important and interesting, is not really the focus of this board. We have a lot of off-topic stuff, but by and large, it's about USM, education, etc.
juco transfer, if you want to get into topics that stretch the brain and require critical thinking skills, I suggest you try the message board called EagleTalk.
