BOARD WILL CONSIDER TEACHER STANDARDS, NEW DEGREE PROGRAMS



10/14/2005 (JACKSON ) -
In its regular monthly meeting next week, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning will consider changes to minimum teacher education standards and the establishment of new degree programs at six of the eight state institutions, among them an executive master of business administration in hospitality and gaming management at Alcorn State University.  The meeting will be the first regular Board meeting since Dr. Thomas Meredith began work as the state’s commissioner of higher education.
 
Committee meetings will take place on Wednesday, October 19th, beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the full Board meeting will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 8:30 a.m.  All meetings will be held in the 9th floor Board room of the IHL building at 3825 Ridgewood Road in Jackson.
 
 
Wednesday, October 19, 2005, 9th floor Board Room, IHL
 
1:30 p.m.         Educational Policies and Programs.  The agenda will include a proposed amendment on minimum teacher education standards, new degree programs, and other business.
2:15 p.m.         Budget, Finance, and Audit.  The agenda will include approval of amendments to financial policies, a continuation of a fee waiver for displaced students, approval of the audit plan for the 2006 calendar year, and other business.
2:45 p.m.         Real Estate and Facilities.   The agenda will include approval of initiations of projects, construction documents, award of contracts, and other business.
3:30 p.m.         Legal.  The agenda will include approval of operating agreements with university foundations, reports of payments to outside counsel, and other business. 
4:30 p.m.         Governance.    The agenda will include consideration of amendments to policies on facilities staff responsibilities and other business.
 
Thursday, October 20, 2005, 9th floor Board Room, IHL
 
 8:30 a.m.        Committee Reports and Recommendations.
Administration/Policy.  Agenda items will include approval of award of honorary degrees at Delta State University and Mississippi State University and other business.
Personnel/Foreign Travel.  The agenda will include a discussion of personnel matters, foreign travel requests at the universities and other business.
 
An Executive Session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.
