Warren Hood and his wife Caroline of Hattiesburg donated $3 million to the hurricane relief fund started by writer John Grisham. I think this is a wonderful gesture and I hope all of us will contribute in our own way.

Yes, having Jamestown blocked for several days was a nuisance. They went from there to my street, which was also a nuisance. But as big a nuisance as having piles of debris (think fire hazard, by the way) out in the street? How many times have we all been nearly hit because of idiots who won't slow down or take turns driving on the blocked streets? When I looked at Jamestown yesterday it was nearly clear. Also, these are the people who have a beautiful rose bed placed where they can't even see it, but we can. It lifted my heart every day to see the roses blooming in the midst of the destruction.

Hood Industries, founded by Warren Hood Sr., is a wood products company. A very successful company. As Mrs. Invictus is known to say, "Warren & Carolyn got mo' money than Kind Farouk." The Hoods are generous people & have been for a long time. They have had a major impact on the quality of life in South Mississippi. The fact that you don't know who they are is very much in line with how they approach philanthropy. I was kinda surprised they allowed their contribution to be publicized.
LVN's observation about the rose garden at the Hoods' home speaks volumes.
disgusted, you are disgusting! I wish that you would quit using even part of my name. I am not sure about the rules on this but I hope that nobody mistakes me for you.

This is a wonderful gesture on their part. They inherited their wealth and have put all that in proper perspective.
Warren Hood & Carolyn are hard working, industrious and successful folks...Both may have inherited wealth but the businesses that they started on their own are wildly successful...They are strong, staunch supporters of the Pine Belt Community and even though are quite about their philanthropic interests, they always put their money to action in the right place at the right time...Plus, all of the Hoods children were brought up in the Hattiesburg Public School System...Warren was on the School Board for Years...Carolyn is a successful Counselor and was practicing part time in Hattiesburg a one point. They are great Americans and Great Mississippians...
Two quick stories. One I probably should not know, much less tell.
A few years ago, during USM's negotiations with Itzhak Perlman about his performing with the symphony, Perlman raised an unexpected roadblock: because of his limited mobility, he required that he fly into a local airport -- and not on the small commuter planes that typically service Pine Belt International. When told of the situation, the Hoods donated the use of their private jet to assure that Perlman could perform with the students.
Four or five years ago, I was in line at a local fast food eatery with my son. The kid in front of us was digging in his wallet scraping up cash to pay his bill. It was obvious by his embarrassment that he was a little short. Being gracious (and expeditious) I handed the cashier the few cents needed to settle up. The young man thanked me somewhat sheepishly and went on his way. My son later explained that the "indigent" was Ren (sp?) Hood.
