Things we are thankful for

I've noticed over the last week how the tone of the board has changed, and I'm rather thankful for that in consideration of what you have all been through.  So I thought I'd give us a chance to express thanks in one form or another.

I'll start.

I'm very thankful that one by one we are hearing that people are safe, and alive.  I'm thankful that even damaged you still have a place to work (I know, I know) many others aren't as lucky. I'm thankful that the people on this board, near and far have shown immense caring and concern for our friends at USM. I'm thankful for this board, it has given me insight to what it has been like for you going through this awful storm, Katrina and SFT.  And the thing that I noticed more than anything, is people were posting under their own names, and that at least one dean had the foresight to use this vessel to get word out that his people were ok, and ask about those he hadn't heard from.

USM will survive Katrina and she will also survive SFT.  I know this because of people such as our regular posters and those who have come in the last week to voice concerns for others as well as their school.  I'll keep you in my prayers.  God bless all of you.

A great post, Patti.  In fact, I always enjoy reading your posts.  Thanks for putting into words what a lot of us are feeling, especially about the survival or our friends.

I am so glad and thankful that all of my Hattiesburg family and friends have been accounted for, and while their spirits might be low, they are not broken. Bless you all.

I am thankful, too, for the kindness and courage that so many people have shown throughout this catastrophe. People are generally good (I have to believe that, being a born optimist), and I believe that it is times like these that bring out the good in so many people.

Y'all are all in my thoughts and prayers,

Truth (aka Andrea)

I am personally thankful that I have the terrific neighbors I have. I am also thankful for the out-of-state helpers -- power company linemen, law enforcement officers, relief workers & others -- who've worked so hard to try to return my community to some sense of normalcy. It has been an humbling experience to observe these people who have come so far to do great service for strangers.

I'm thankful that in the last few days I have heard from another friend there who is safe.  A bit shook up as she was much closer to the "action" than others, but she is doing well.

I'm thankful you all got to go back to work today, and I haven't heard to much about soggy carpets, or broken windows or any other number of what went wrong.  I've heard instead good things, positive things.

Thank you all for caring about each other and  your students, you are true professionals.
