I got a call today from Peggy Smith. She has heard from Eric Luce (CISE). He evacuated to Alabama and has now headed up north to be with his family. His house was destroyed. She has also heard from Lela Weems (ELR). Lela is ok and staying with friends in Harrison County. Lela's house on Second Street in Pass Christian had water to the ceiling and was washed off of its foundation. Lela's house did not get water in Camille. Peggy and Mike Smith (who retired this year from ELR and Criminal Justice) lost their home, belongings, and car in Long Beach but the Smiths are well and istaying in West Virginia.
Let's devote this thread to information from Gulf Park faculty and staff. Please post on this thread if you know of anyone. l
I am glad to hear that Mike and Peg are okay. I figured they were still in WV but was not 100% certain. If they happen to read this message, please email me: alan.thompson@usm.edu
Heard that Julie Cwikla and her daughter are safe and sound at her folks in CT. I heard her home was destroyed as well. Her husband is in Miami FLA on business and is safe too.
Besides myself, most members of the English faculty have been heard from and are OK: Kay Harris, Damon Franke, Beth Roberts. Eric Nelson of the history department is OK. As is Doug Bristol, history. I haven't heard from Elaine White or Pat Smith. Has anybody? How about Jim Miller (Computer Science)?
We've heard from almost everyone in the CoB GC with the exception of John Brown, Mary Anderson, and Daniel Michael. Hopefullly, they fled to higher ground. Glad to know many of our building mates in Hardy Hall survived the storm.
