We are totally "battened down" as you say. I had a delicious bath of the bubbles, and then we filled the tub with our emergency water. Miss Angleterre is her usual self of the most marvelous efficiency. One feels extremely secure. She has now hard-boiled all the eggs, cooked the forzen food, and made a large thermos of coffee. Batteries, candles (only to be used with much care) water and food are now on hand. Now we are eating the ice cream for dinner, a rather inspired idea of my own.

We have not heard from our friends from Louisiane, so we must trust that they have made other arrangements.

We grieve for our belle nouvelle Orleans.

Miss Angleterre has been singing a song all afternoon. It has the words, "even so, it is well, it is well with my soul." I shall bid you au revoir, and go and ask her to teach me all the words.

May le bon Dieu be with you all, mes amis.

M. de Guerre
