"Quest For The Mace." A novel, by Theron Manly, coming before the end of 05, or in 06, is about the quest for power at a southern university.
Gulf States University is located in Chilton, Mississippi. Newly appointed president, Timothy F. Shelton, is suddenly under intense pressure from a small group of his adversaries to resign. Do the adversaries have what they need to force his resignation? Does he have the power to maintain his position?
Out of curiosity I did a Google search on Gulf States University. There seem to be many of them within outside of the country. There is even one listed in New Orleans. I gave up looking shen I spotted six or eight. I didn't go to the second or subsequent pages so there might even be dozens!

Is this a joke, or is there really such a book in the works? I Googled the title and author you mentioned, and came up with nothing. More information please, if you have it.
"Quest For The Mace" I know the author. I have read the manuscript and enjoyed the story. I know he is very methodical and wiill deliver a very interesting story when he is ready to publish. He was a faculty member on the Gulf Park Campus for a long time. It is coming as announced in 05 or 06 and several people that post on your board have had an opportunity to do a preview.
The Mississippi Committee of the Commission Secondary and Middle Schools has announced that it will recommend to the Central Reviewing Committee in its fall meeting in October that Hattiesburg High School, Rowan Junior High School, and Hawkins Junior High School continue to maintain their "Accredited" status with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This citation indicates that the three schools meet all standards established by SACS for effective school operations. Hattiesburg was also one of 428 school districts in the region and one of 46 in the state to qualify for special recognition by the SACS Commission on Elementary and Middle Schools for having all eligible schools accredited by SACS. "Your school is to be commended for the continued efforts that are made for school improvement. Regional accreditation provides many avenues to facilitate your local school improvement process," Theron Manly, state director of the Mississippi Committee of Commission on Secondary and Middle Schools, said. The Hattiesburg Public School District has maintained SACS districtwide accreditation since 1989 as a means of assuring that nationally recognized standards and expectations for schools are met. These standards are meaningful to new families, businesses, and industry who are relocating or considering relocation to the area.
Well, I'll be darned; there really is a Theron W. Manly; he did indeed teach at USM Gulf Coast campus as an associate professor of education; his PhD is from the University of Alabama. Here's the proof:
Dr. Manly sent out an announcement just the other day. The book can be purchased in hardcopy or downloadable form at http://www.lulu.com/content/303149. There is also a preview online.
On page 2, there's a hilarious reference to the president's "polymer-topped desk" & on page 7, there's a reference to his former mistress, "Becca"... Ugh.
Some of y'all might get a kick out of it, but the book's not going to the top of anybody's best seller list, I suspect...

I look forward to reading the book.
No fun looking at this. You see the names of all the people who have left.
