I dont know who you are...but you are officially my hero.
And what percentage of professors at USM have the time or the money to belong to Hattiesburg Country Club? How come nobody complains about seeing their doctor or their lawyer or their CPA out on the golf course?
How exciting. Right up there with the Dvorak Family Feud on my list of things to Never Think About Again. Give it a rest.
Oh, come on, you've gotta admit that the saga of the dueling Dvoraks makes great copy. I'm trying to get them on my show along with Hanbury and Malone, and maybe Mader. Can't you just see them all screaming profanities, hurling furniture, ripping off clothes, shouting threats? What's that? You've already seen it? While they worked at USM? Oh well, never mind.

But Jerry, why leave out Shelby and Dana? After all, Shelby is MD's mentor, and Dana is his, uhhh, special friend.

I can count on two hands the number of faculty members I know at USM who play golf. I know of only two in my medium size department who play it. They play on weekends and holidays.
While some of you may not know many profs who play golf, I happen to know quite a few. They used to play at Canebrake, Timberton, Shadow Ridge, the Airport, and (until it closed) the Hook. However, I know of at least ten who refuse to play in the greater Hattiesburg area, so they go to the Coast to play some of the nice Casino-related courses down there. At $50+ per round and one round per week, that's a reasonable money that won't be roosting in the 'Burg. Just based on these ten, that would be at least $20,000 gone.
If it was true about the USM faculty not playing in Hattiesburg, you would not have all the congestion on the courses during the week. The working people can only play on weekends. The "ivory tower elite" play during the week an noon!!! Go to the HCC and observe an lunch.

The profs love the casinos. One even wrote a nice article in the "New Yorker" about his gambling.USM could support a full time casino-golf resort for use just for faculty members. It would be busy seven days a week. They could train their casino management students at this facility.

One of us has to improve our reading skills. All I have seen from the trolls are unsubstantiated assertions. It is begging the question to ask, “Have you stopped molesting children?” When the trolls present arguments, evidence and logical reasoning then they won't be called trolls, and everyone here can have a discussion.
Good point, T.A. Several of us tried to give evidence and arguments to A the M, and then it was clear he wasn't even reading the responses. Towner is more of the same. It's pretty obvious who's here to talk and who's here to cause trouble. The troublemakers never actually discuss.
Argumenation works in the academy, but I guarantee you not a word of this board has changed people's minds--almost like the euthenasia or abortion debates. People are entrenched in their assumptions. Actually, no one really cares what goes on at USM, people in the Burg are mostly just scraping by, got their own worries.
This board serves its purpose to dissemanate information, especially when the admin is up to something on the sly. Other than that, it is a b*tch fest, call it community or whatever, that's all it is.
I don't really hate y'all, that would mean I care. No one does.

Now Towner makes a reasonable statement. Towner the purpose of this board is not to change the minds of people in the community. As you correctly state it is to exchange information and b*tch. It’s important to exchange info and even the Hattiesburg American keeps up with this board to get leads to stories etc. B*tching is good for the spirit after smiling all day saying nice things so the powers above think you are happy.
A few questions for you: If no one cares (and why should they) why are you here? Let us b*tch, exchange information, debate with evidence and logical argument and have fun shooting down poor arguments of trolls. But why are you here? What do you offer? How do you justify your existence on this board to yourself? Or maybe you are just bored?
