After many Cox-Purvis Reports about departed softball coach Lu Harris and the state of the USM softball program, EagleTalk finally comes around to getting its membership informed:
Above the Mire wrote: Eagle Talk is a message board dedicated to USM sports so the academic issues of the university would not me appropriate for discussion on that board.
Leving AtM's obvious flamebait aside for the moment, the above statement is basically a half-truth. Anyone who wants can go to ET & read Caribbean Eagle's forum, which scattershoots at everything from liberal democrats to lazy professors. They even have a forum just for flaming. This actually demonstrates that Don & Lanny take their board very seriously & want the non-sports stuff kept off the main board.
If this were a registration-required board with multiple forums, such an arrangement would be possible. The main forum could be academic issues & we could have sub-forums for "senseless slamming of the university," "trolls only," & sports.
But alas, this isn't a registration-required board. Like most of the rest of the Internet, it is a monument to what Dr. Dylan called "the hoax of free speech."
<FAIR USE>
"And them Caribbean winds still blow from Nassau to Mexico Fanning the flames in the furnace of desire And them distant ships of liberty on them iron waves so bold and free, Bringing everything that's near to me nearer to the fire."
I forgot to add that Tiegieser's editorial was quite good. He's generally pretty moderate about what he says regarding USM athletics, so this is a seriously heavy statement he made. Good job, Don!
Has anyone wondered if the Atheltic Department has ever thought about Sharon Perkins to come back and get the program back to where it once was? She is currently Associate Head Coach at UGA and has been with Lu every step of the way over the past 10 years. I know they talked to her in 2000 about the HC job when they both left for Georgia, but the offer was so minimal as far as salary was concerned that she and her husband left for UGA as she was about ready to have the couple's first child. I talk to them both from time to time and they both have very fond memories of USM and still have friends in the area.
I asked the same question of someone who in the AD's office, they told me that Perkins was offered the HC job when McNutt was hired and turned it down then.
Not sure if she would consider, but she's an outstanding coach and motivator
