The HA piece regarding the G-S settlement and reminiscing about the old Thames gang prompted me to look at the Hanbury & Dvorak web site. It is no more. Now it's the John Hanbury web site. What happened to the great new law practice that was going to service all the business needs of Forrest County? And where's Mark Dvorak?  Did he fail to pass the bar exam? He's not listed with the Martindale/ABA lawyer finder and isn't even a member of the Mississippi Bar Association.

Word on the streets was that Mark couldn't pass the bar exam and never got licensed to practice in Mississippi. So Hack gave him the boot. By the way, Angie never passed the bar either, but she may not have even attempted it since her law degree was only intended to beef up the resume.  No idea whether MD is still hanging around Hattiesburg. There were reports earlier this year including some on this message board of Dvorak marital strife and some ugly public scenes.  Maybe he's teaching law at Thomas Cooley now?

I'd say I feel sorry for him but what goes around comes around.

Best I recall, AD made $150, MD and JH made $140 each. Let's see, add zero three times, mmm, eight and five is three, carry the one, mmm, that comes to $430,000 for one year for three of the most useless employees this university every hired. No counting benefits.
These numbers are making me want to throw up.

Thanks for refreshing our memory 3W. The $430,000 plus benefits should be added to the figure published in the HA, $457,000 I believe, for a more accurate accounting of the Thames-Dvorak fiasco. Over $887,000 down the toilet for Mississippi taxpayers, and still rising.

Glad to see my math brain cells still work even if the typing ones have gone to heck. "Not counting benefits."

I heard MD had split up with AD and is out of work and living in Exline's spare bedroom.

This is where we run into credibility problems.  I also heard the first part of that but certainly not the second.  A funny thought though.

After checking with usually unimpeachable sources, the following information is provided:

AD-MD Split--confirmed, separated but not divorced

Out-of-Work--kinda sorta. He's not licensed to practice law, apparently has no marketable skills, is doing odd jobs around town to make ends meet.

Living at Exline's pad--No good info, conflicting reports, maybe just a sometimes guest?

Recently overheard comments from MD at the Hog--he's got nothing good to say about AD or Hanbury.  Looks like the Kentucky mafia is in disarray.

So why is MD still here? Presumably he's still licensed to practice law in KY? He could get a job as a paralegal if nothing else.

Top 10 Reasons MD is still in Hattiesburg:

1. Still hoping to reconcile with the lovely AD

2. If they don't reconcile, wants his share of the community property

3. Is completing a USM Ph.D. in Economic Development

4. Is forbidden to leave the state of Mississippi

5. Is forbidden re-entry into Kentucky

6. Has an application pending for bartender at the Purple Parrott

7. Has to personally pick up his monthly hush money payments from SFT

8. Hard to beat those good deals at Hudson's Treasure Hunt

9. Can't bear to leave his many Hattiesburg friends behind.

10. Hoping to get on the short list of candidates for president of USM

Now those are funny, except #5 is probably true. (PS don't have community property in MS, and they didn't buy a house did they? Thought they rented from The Man himself.)

Hope #6 isn't true. The PP bartender is one of the top 2 in town, IMO.

Yes, the Dvoraks did rent the Thames manse when they first hit town.  I don't know where either of them reside now. (Funny,  the banner advertisement now displayed at the top of my screen is for an on-line law degree from Concord Law School. Could this be next for USM)

While Mississippi law doesn't provide for community property, the parties do negotiate the division of property and their agreement becomes part of the divorce decree.  Maybe MD is hanging around to insure that he's properly represented in the negotiations.  Since he and Angeline are both armed with law degrees from Thomas Cooley, they'd certainly be worthy adversaries.

I heard that the Dvoraks vacated Shelboo's mansion when they split, and he's now sub-leasing it to Aramark for use as a weiner production facility.

What's this? I thought we were boycotting the Purple Parrott. Is that off?  Can their bartender build a decent martini?  Stirred, not shaken?

MD doesn't look like he'd be much of a martini mechanic.

Back to the boycott, please let me know if I can go over there, ASAP? Thanks.

Edgar Ray, do the prison officials in Rankin County know you are surfing the Internet? As a taxpayer, I am appalled.

I called the psycho hotline, currently housed in CISE, and was told that Mark is drinking and doing odd jobs while waiting for Cy E. Moore to need him to rescue her.

He has committed his life to taking Calgon baths with her, if she will just cherish him, feed him and pamper him.

If that plan falls through, his backup plan is to kidnap Russ Willis (who got the Biggie Smalls raise this year) and become a house husband.

This guy is a strategic planner, but no one will acknowledge his smooooooth style.

It is one thing to be against an administrator's qualifications and positions, it is another thing to dive into a personal life. This entire thread smacks of vindictiveness and is something I would expect to hear from the Dome about professors. What about a little professionalism on the board?

I initiated this thread  motivated by curiosity, not vindictiveness.  As an out-of-towner not privy to the Hattiesburg grapevine,  I was interested in the fate of the main players in the old Thames-Dvorak alliance.  Thames and Angie are still making  headlines and easy to follow, and everybody knows about Mader's departure. Hanbury and Mark Dvorak are less visible.  Of all the original "bad guys"  I've had the impression that MD was the most benign. From afar he seemed little more than a hanger-on who tagged along behind Angie feeding off her table scraps.  I wish him no ill will.  However,  as the post-settlement smoke clears and events continue to unfold, it is interesting to observe the law of karma taking hold.  I apologize for triggering the few comments characterized as vindictive or unprofessional.  On the other hand, many others are wurl' class satire and gratifyingly therapeutic.

Not so.  Just as malignant when he was part of the administration.  Scarily vindictive.  Ask FG.

OK, I'll take your word for it.  MD just didn't get the press "enjoyed" by AD and Hanbury, leading an outsider to conclude he was a passive player. I will ask FG about it.  When is the big coming out party anyway?  Are we waiting until 2007?  I'll be in or near the Burg July 10-13,  available for low-down rumor mongering and the ceremonial swilling of ale.

As usual Geraldo has mis information.  My source told me MD left the firm because he could not deal with his lazy partner.  Also, MD did not take the bar exam in MS because he did not want to practice here he only wanted to lobby.  This source also told me he actually did not apply to practice law in MS for those reasons.  The other info on his persoanl life I have no clue I only concern myself with the legal community.  As a lwayer if I were him I would be pi$$ed if someone without valid information actually stated publically that he failed a bar exam, but that is up to him to fight with the mis information.  Maybe he file suit for defamatation to square all this up!

And his damages would be .....?  How can you possibly slander that bunch.  My God, giving him the benefit of every doubt, he lobbies for a living.  I get sick and tired of MD and his former spouse threatening to SUE anybody that questions their credentials.  They would rather face an honest creditials committee than set foot in a local courtroom.

And we care because, . . . .?

Don't know about the rest of you, but these people are off the USM payroll, and I don't give a flyin' fig what they do, not who they sleep with, where they drink, what games they play, or any of it. Goodbye and good riddance to the lot of 'em.
