I interpret this to mean that a broad education in the arts and humanities, in the social, physical, & life sciences, and in mathematics, is what college is all about. This principle is recognized in the required curriculum at America's top colleges and universities. Let's not let USM drift away from the mainstream. A liberal arts education and economic development are initmately related. Focus primarily on the former and the latter will follow not far behind.
