Where do the patrons of the upscale restaurant park?

Well, LVN, if Roy has his way, every building on campus will eventually be an upscale restaurant, and MS will be down to 7 state universities.

arent the adp people complaining about no liquor west of town in fact having a vote tomorrow to go wet, so we can attract more restaurants?

no liquor on campus, how can this be a successful resturant?

maybe sft can have the area declared resort rather than educational and get the happy juice flowing..

cheers

As I indicated in a thread discussing the Trent Lott Center some time back, look for the ED folks and their power backers to find a legal way to serve liquor in the TLC banquet room. If they find a way to do it, they will, and they will try to extend it to the upscale Power House.

If you followed the drug and alcohol policy discussions of yore, you would know that it is legal to drink beer and certain wines on campus.

I was under the impression that the USM campus is a "dry" campus except on special occasions (football game weekends "The District" is "wet". If so, then how can profs be allowed to drink alcohol at the faculty club? Is there even a faculty club anymore? I remember it from my days in Hattiesburg.

It is legal to drink alcohol on campus (provided the one consuming the alcohol is 21)  but it is not legal to sell alcohol on campus.

A faculty club?  You mean like a real college or university?  Yeah, right.  Not in the last ten years at least has there been a faculty club.  Faculty sorely need a place where they can socialize with faculty from other disciplines.  If Shelby was smart (I know, I know) he would have built one immediately upon assuming the presidency and bugged it as way to keep tabs on his "employees."  When the drinks flow, people tend to talk.

Isn't that what this website and his 24/7 monitoring of it accomplishes?  No drinks though!

I'm really surprised to learn that USM doesn't have a faculty club.  I have a niece who attends the University of Central Oklahoma, a relatively small commuter school in Edmond, OK.  They have a very nice faculty dining room that doubles as a faculty club.  I've been there several times and enjoyed excellent cuisine at exceptionally low prices.  Pretentious as he is, I'd think a faculty club would be high on the Thames priority list, right up there with sky boxes.

AE, we might not have a Faculty Club, but we do have an Old Boys' Club.

The only problem with using this board as a faculty club is that it lets in the riff-raff (me, Invictus, who knows who else.)

Long time ago UMemphis had a faculty dining room. Drapes, padded chairs and quiet. Same food. One of the hugest perks of being a TA was getting to eat in there. Heaven!

Would that be the same as the USM Good Ole Boy's Club?

One and the same. Membership by invitation only.

Yeah. All these "lazy effect snobs" would probably want some ritzy place with fancy table cloths & linen napkins & stuff where I couldn't slop Busch on the floor.

Donnanelle's is more my style

Hey Stinky, don't you remember? A few years after the one at the old SouthernAir motel closed, they reopened it on campus at the Peck Building. It was open for several years and was a really nice place to go, but it closed as well. The rumor was that there was some sort of stink about the liquor laws and it was shut down because of that.

The only way around that would be for a faculty club to be owned by a separate entity, such as the Foundation. I believe this is what Ole Myth does to allow them to serve libations at the Memory House right at the front gate.

I've never figured out what State does about its Oenology Department, though

A faculty club must most definitely be owned by a separate (private) entity. But it most definitely should not be the Foundation.

Are you against any Foundation sponsoring any Faculty club or this Foundation sponsoring this Faculty Club?

What if you had a little corporation that owned the Faculty Club and all faculty could be shareholders, elected board etc.??

I don't think the USM Foundation should sponsor or run a USM Faculty Club. The relationship between the Foundation and USM is too ambiguous. And maybe a little too cozy.
