Deondra Carter, the team's leading scorer (a soph I believe), has left the USM women's basketball team. Lee-McNelis is quoted as saying everyone was "surprised."
So, JLM runs off about 6 players she doesn't want anymore (like ole LE) and then is dumbfounded that one leaves on her own (in this case, her best player).
For those of you who think the basketball programs are in really good hands these days, get ready to be disappointed.
actually, 9 players who were on the Lady Eagles squad at the beginning of the 2004-05 season will not be on the bench at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. Two left during the season and another six left right after the season, Carter is the ninth player to leave.
one of the nine players injured her shoulder twice and had to give up basketball because of it. Carter and Dianca Jones were the only significant loses to the team.
According to www.southernmiss.com, the women's team had only 12 players on roster for the 2004-2005 season. I think losing 9 of the 12 could probably be considered a major turnover.
Since very few were Division I quality players, it is actually a good thing. Give us a few years and you will see.

If McNelis needs "years" to get the program up and running, then it's even more in her interest than most professors' that Shelby Thames exit stage left. He's not about waiting "years" for anything to materialize. He told Eustachy that he should've begun winning last season (LE said SFT told him this on his tv show). I agree with you that she may be a good coach, but she needs time.
Xavier is a very fine school, historically black, Catholic, trains a lot of pre-med, pharmacy, etc. Excellent place. If your child got an opportunity like that, you'd want her to go.
