USM President Shelby Thames said today that he is forming an exploratory committee, charged with looking into his prospects as a Hattiesburg mayoral candidate in 2009. That committee will be led by Gregg Lassen, a seasoned political veteran from Texas and Utah political races. Lassen, who currently holds the position of Vice President of Finance at USM, will be supported in exploration efforts by Joan Exline, who will head up the group's "political articulation efforts" in East Hattiesburg. Exline currently serves as an education articulation expert at USM.
"I am not very enthused about yesterday's election results," Thames said. "Come 2009, we can set the relationship between the City and USM right. If I must, I will serve in both capacities [Mayor-USM President] at that time," Thames indicated.
Lassen, himself a Congressional candidate in Texas on the Libertarian side, and, later, a Utah Gubernatorial candidate as a Democrat, expressed excitement at the prospect of the future race. "I'm excited about it. We'll likely run him as Republican. I haven't tried that one [Party] before. It should be fun," Lassen indicated.
Angie will likely help from her post at the ADP. I'm sure they will work with Rowell and Lee Jarrell, and lots of $ will flow in from HA Clinic and the business community.
Surely Angie Dvorak would be involved in this effort.
Yes, Mrs. Dr. Dr. Dvorak is prepared to offer her services as Mistress to the Mayor in the event of a Thames victory. She assures us that she has vast experience in this area, both generally, and more specifically, with Dr. Thames. She also has advised us that, in the spirit of community service for which she is known, there will be no charge for her services.
Read the George County article from the Sun Herald at the top of the Thames News tab on the AAUP main page and ask yourself why some posters have asked Reader to identify his/her satire as such.
Can anyone on this board illuminate my company as to why we received an order today for $1 million in Monopoly money. The customer, a Mr. Lassen, also asked about having the money printed with a picture of someone named Thames on it. We are happy to oblige, but prefer not to involve ourselves in a political scandal and are concerned that the use of our funds to support a Committee to Elect may not be in our corporate interests.
I don't know what a "knee-jerk reactionist" actually is, but you're welcome to your opinion. I've been called worse.
The problem with reader's satire is that it is extremely good and extremely clever, and sometimes only one line gives it away. Not everyone reads that closely, and not everyone gets satire at all.

So, LVN, you're stance is that since some people don't read very closely and since some people don't get satire at all that "reader" should dumb down his or her posts to make them more accessible to the masses? Is that your stance on any other topics, like, say, academics? Should USM be dumbing down its curriculum just because more of its students are unprepared for college courses? Remember that any erosion of course content erodes the value of a USM degree and that erosion of one university's degrees does affect the value of other universities' degrees.
I think "reader" should think carefully before making changes to his or her style. Please don't contribute to the educational lobotomy that is going on these days.
Wow, you took my one little comment and went far afield with it! I made what seemed to me a fairly simple remark and now I'm all for "dumbing down" the USM curriculum? All I can say is, you must be new to this board if you think that. I've been posting for over a year and I've never been anything like that.
And why did you zero in on my comment and not any of the others? Would you care to address the comments of "Truth from fiction" -- Do you have some kind of personal issues with me?
Got me indeed. You'd think I'd know better, especially since I took the "no troll response pledge" a while back. Sorry for dragging you into it, T. from F.
Well, back to work. I'm editing a Little Golden Books edition of The Sound and the Fury.

I'm sure our esteemed students will find that quite acceptable reading, along with Marvel comics and other "classics".

The order must be bogus. The real Gregg Lassen would have referred to himself as Dr. Lassen.
