From USMMail:

Attention Campus Community:

The Union and Seymour's are temporarily closed due to a power outage. A
problem in the broiler room has left the entire facility without electricity.
The Union will be closed Wednesday, June 1 and possibly Thursday, June 2. We
will notify the campus first thing Thursday morning of any additional
closings.

Departments that had a meeting scheduled in the Union during this time should
secure another location or call the Reservation Office at 266-4399 on Thursday
to reschedule. Patrons may use the Commons, Agora, in the International
Center, and Stone's Throw(open at 10 a.m.)today and tomorrow for dining.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we will keep you informed of the
progress.

Addendum:  The following sentences were inadvertently omitted from the text of the original message.  Please insert the following text after the second sentence:

"The power outage has been determined to be the direct result of a failure to perform required preventive broiler maintenance.  Broiler maintenance was the direct responsibility of former USM Provost, Dr. Tim Hudson, and Dr. Thames was informed repeatedly that all maintenance was up to date.  Any inconvenience to USM students, faculty, or staff caused by this outage is the fault of Dr. Hudson and Dr. Hudson alone."

For those who may not understand, please note USMMail editor was joking.  I hope the H.A. didn't pick that up.

Does anybody know what a "broiler room" is?  I've been wondering all day.  The only broiler I know anything about is in the top of my oven.

In your lifetime maybe. Anyway, you're very high on my list of people I'm eager to meet.
