I have been following the rantings of Southern's faculty over the past three years and am appalled at how far some of them will go to protect their cozy lifestyles. While the rest of us have grown accustomed to overtime, shift work, and very little in the way of benefits, Southern's faculty continues to gripe about how cutting the number of colleges there from nine to five --- a move that saved millions of dollars I might add --- somehow equals disaster. The faculty need to worry more about the classroom, where problems are developing, and leave the administration to the school's managers and the Mississippi IHL Board.
Clearly this is resistance to change of any sort, and the professorate there now fears that the apple cart is being disrupted. While the faculty enjoy privileges the rest of us aren't entitled to, like tenure and academic freedom, they must submit to authority. I urge the IHL to support taxpayers in this wish, and to give the school's leaders additional years to finish the job they started.

Those overflowing ditches from the weekend rain in Nitchampburg created Shelby's very own River Thames.
