The C-USA tourney continues to progress according to seedings, which was bad news last night for the Eagles. USM was shut down 0-8 by the Horned Frogs of TCU in the late game at Pete Taylor. Louisville and UAB were sent home from the losers bracket in earlier play, while Tulane inched closer to the 50-win mark. USM faces USF (again) today, with the loser being eliminated from tournament action.
The Bulldogs from State and the Ole Miss Rebels moved off in different directions yesterday in Hoover. State took care of South Carolina and remains undefeated. Ole Miss lost an exciting one late last night to Florida, and moves into the losers bracket to face Alabama today. The loser of that one is ousted.
Meanwhile, Delta State is headed off today to play in the national championship tournament for their division in Montgomery. Their first opponent is from Cali. Should be an exciting championship over there.
Finally, posts from EagleTalk indicate that Athlon's football preseason magazine continues to display/use the old eagle logo for USM, not the new one adopted by Mr. G of late. We suspect that Athlon's may have done so (used old one) on advice from trademark lawyers.
