It's over! The USM faculty has jumped aboard a bandwagon loaded with Black Dupree voters and they're headed down victory lane. The clencher came when Dupree withdrew Thames' invitation to his second inaugural. The Mayor has promised to consult with Stringer and Polk on all cultural matters. The final (almost) numbers.USM faculty: Dupree 96%,Rowell 4%. General Election: Dupre 53%,Rowell 47%. As always, you can take it to the bank.

Your motive is transparent, Word on the Street Man. Crawl back to wherever you came from.

Sorry, "word on the street." Many of Stringer's and Polk's close friends are Rowell supporters, so I think you better not put this one in the bank. You'll lose on that one.

Aside from the fact that Stringer and Polk don't live in Hattiesburg any more. This poster has issues with the English faculty, apparently. Also, s/he is a flaming racist, which most of the Rowell supporters I know personally are not. The numbers, however, may be accurate as to the final vote.

As this idiot has been told many times, some significant percentage of faculty live outside the city limits, so it doesn't matter who they're "for" -- and you're only talking about a few hundred people anyway. Sheesh, I get tired of this dreck.

I'm not sure why the mayor, now or next, would want to consult on anything with a non-resident of Hattiesburg. I've not authorized any use of my name in any way at all by any candidate; indeed, as far as I know I've not even been contacted by Mayor Dupreen unless a letter is waiting for me in the mailbox for when I get home at the end of June.

Thank you LVN. It is obvious that "word on the street" is himself (herself?) a racist as well as a faculty-hater. I suspect it is an escapee from the Thames athletic boosters who paints the faculty with broad brush strokes.

I would encourage everyone to look beyond the Thames/faculty issues and see where each candidate stands--what is the vision of each one for the community. The city of Hattiesburg has major problems; who best can solve them? Who has well-thought out and clearly articulated positions and ideas for solving problems?

It is counter-productive for anyone to generalize about one candidate or the other and about his/her supporters. Politics makes strange bedfellows. I also would encourage sane people not to generalize about faculty. As LVN said, a large percentage live outside the city limits. The faculty city residents are NOT going to swing the election. But the truth is that many faculty support Rowell.

I am faculty, and I support Rowell.  Must be part of the 4%.

Then let us all hope that this is Word on the Street Man's final pointless post.  I'd be happy to take that to the bank.
