Sometime ago I heard that there was talk of turning USM faculty into millionaires. That didn't set very well with me. This evening, on CBS News, there was a very well put together story about a trend spreading across the nation for university students to prefer going into public service rather than taking the more lucrative jobs in business and industry. Many USM students already enter public service as a career of choice. Some of our departments already prepare their students to enter public service. How nice. I do hope the national public service trend spills over to USM and takes hold of more and more of our students. An unfilled niche for a public university in Mississippi?
