USM paving question...

Anyone heard that Warren Paving is doing work in pieces/blocks totaling $249,999.99?  If so, what's the significance of it?

Question?

Is there NOT some wording in grants and contracts via IHL that "business" costs above a quarter million HAVE to be approved by IHL?

Therefor, SFT is conducting business as usual and spending money WITHOUT having to go before IHL and seek permission.  Correct?

No problem.  Legal lesson learned from the old contracts with Pileum.  Something to do with the limit necessary to have to obtain competitive bids.  Apparently, SFT had to learn a small detail with state law.  They're much more careful now.

As I re-ponder this topic, it occurs to me that it would be better to have some actual evidence or information before we start throwing out accusations. Granted, we have reason to believe games or being played, but we all know that without the cooperation of the State Auditor, which won't be forthcoming, it's a waste of time to go here. Unless you got the paper and the numbers of course, and if you have ANY knowledge that federal funds are being misused, please contact somebody federal.

This deal about breaking up jobs to avoid bids is done everywhere I've ever been. Not a good thing, just done.

How much time, energy, and focus do the anti-Thames forces have? It's a finite amount. Where should the time, energy, and focus be spent? That's the important question. There are going to be a lot of things we'd like to look into, but I hope that faculty and sympathetic administrators will prioritize and carefully ration their resources. As others advise, try to get him to commit to certain actions and then watch him like a hawk. You can't be everywhere, but then neither can he.

What about letting Shelby enjoy his lame duck twilight playing with monoply money, tonka trucks, and erector sets?  In the scheme of things, it's probably not a bad use of his time AND it could keep him out of academics.  Use the limited time, energy, and focus on building and strengthening the university community and academic trust.  If he gets out of the asphalt sandbox to wreak havoc on the academic side of the house again, then that's another story.  In fact, that would likely be the next stupid thing.
