I just got another one of my anonymous emails. It was supposedly sent to the faculty senate and the aaup prez.
--------------------------
The faculty has successfully defeated another president. I know you are happy with yourselves, even though the institution’s reputation suffered immensely from your methods of attack
A member of the faculty senate once told me that the Anthropology-Sociology and English faculty were doing what they were doing so that the next president would “fear” doing even the smallest of tasks without faculty approval. There is no doubt in my mind that the next president will never think about firing another faculty member. No doubt the next president will have a better understanding of what not to do here at USM.
However, I hope you, the faculty, have also learned a lesson. I hope you will strive more diligently to work with—rather than frustrate—the next president. I hope you have learned that a vote of no confidence only embarrasses the faculty rather than the president, and it shows the president that all attempts of esprit de corps are hopeless.
Now that many of the complainers and self-serving faculty have gone elsewhere, I suspect there will not be as many here to antagonize the next president. But there are still a few of you left, is there not? Please, for the sake of USM and the students, please try not to make any more mistakes like you made with Thames. Please do not put yourselves and your personal comfort above the importance and the value of USM.
Why would you be the recipient if this e-mail, Little Albert? As a member of FS, I cam say that it has not yet been received. But we look forward to it being received and posted on the FS listserv. We sure can use some humor after this long year.
Senators will especially enjoy the part, " Please, for the sake of USM and the students, please try not to make any more mistakes like you made with Thames." We have long list of the mistakes of the Thames administration. What we would love to see, and asked for repeatedly from many trolls, is a list of the mistakes of the Senate and faculty. We learn for our mistakes and would benefit from such a list. I realize that it may be a very long list, Little Albert, so just post a couple of things. We don't want you to strain yourself.
As Darwin wrote in his log, "Trolls must be at the very bottom of the phylogenetic scale. It's a wonder any two of them could manage to find their way up the ramp to Noah's arc."

Right idea, wrong animal. "merde de cheval" = Equine droppings.
Ah, the value of a "general education" curriculum, which included required foreign language classes. Yet another lesson lost on the Dome Gnome and the henchbunch.
I received this message to my USM email at 5:48 this evening.
A message that I broadcast in return is that the Faculty Senate will continue and expand its vigilance and its dedication to the betterment of this university. Bill Powell, USM Faculty Senate President-elect
PS - I'm in foreign languages. 'Merde de cheval' refers to horse excrement.

Bill, thanks for this verification. I guess that I should feel slighted, because I didn't get this nonsense, but maybe it's because I rotated off Faculty Senate some time ago.
SFT just told all you faculty, students, and staff and people who really have been hurt by him that you can kiss off. Now the matter is decided, and I have to hand it to Shelby. I think he is the worst thing ever in history to happen to USM. However, I gotta hand it to him. He has outwitted everyone. You see, he never intended more than another couple of years. Now, he has it, and he even has his most ardent critics claiming victory. Poor Amy. Poor Faculty Senate. Poor USM. But you got to give Shelby credit. He has told everyone he ain't going nowhere until he is ready. He says he will be ready in another two years. And that is a USM victory? Nope. But congratulations, Shelby, you are a master. As for the rest of you, quit your bitching. You got what you deserve. And, by the way, you got him for two more years!!!!
This is an incredible victory for Thames, anyway you look at it. I am very serious about that.

How do you know what Shelby intended?
His picture in the paper yesterday did not look like the face of a "victor
No one is claiming "victory" -- people are just damn grateful to see the tiniest shred of hope. It's not a victory for anybody, and neither Professor Young nor the Faculty Senators (as far as I know) are feeling particularly victorious.

A sensible Board of Trustees would never have made Shelby Thames president of USM. From that standpoint, every minute he's spent in the Dome is an incredible victory for him.
But Thames thinks he is entitled to rule forever. From his standpoint, he has been handed a significant defeat.
