Joe Paul came to USM from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, pledged Sigma Nu, and never really left. He started as a Student Union staffer reporting to Warren Dunn, and had enough "upward mobility" that at some point later, Warren reported to Joe P. After many years at USM, Joe went to Alabama for a short period (1-2 years) to obtain a Ph.D., and came back as an Assistant Administrator in Kennard-Washington Hall, with a courtesy appointment in the College of Ed/Psych. He basically followed Aubrey Lucas' route, moving upward quietly through the administration, but Joe is never going to "question authority" nor demonstrate any strong leadership on his own.
