I was thinking of a new theme as we collectively try to work our way through what is either great news (Shelby got canned) or terrible news (two more years is an eternity).
There is certainly incentive now for those dedicated to making USM a better place for LATER (Life After Thames Enters Retirement). That means recruiting and retaining good faculty, staff, and students, building quality programs, and restoring relationships.
What if every accomplishment of the university...awards, publications, grants, competitions, programs, accreditation, performances, etc. uses the qualifier, in spite of Shelby Thames. This is not so different from what faculty groups are already doing and saying but I am suggesting a much more focused effort in that direction. Think about some ways to spread that message.
Minimize Shelby Thames and do it in a way that promotes the university and the good things that most of you do for it.
