We should also honor the retired English Professor from Carolina (?) who (now resides in H'burg) wrote many excellent letters. I can't remember his name, but I would nominate him for an honorary USM Emeritus professorship (except I no longer think any connection to USM would be something to brag about).

Was it Evans? I don't remember his first name, but his letters were something to behold!

If we're expanding this list to also include non- faculty, enter the name of Steve Shepard.(he wrote a brief but very fine Clarion-Ledger letter to the editor).

I uncovered four more strong letters supporting the faculty in old editions of the CL or HA: Bruce Bracken, Cherry Miller, Charles Noblin, and Rosalie Zimmerman.

This is an impressive list, and, of course, as the other posts in this thread make clear, it is not complete. Have there been ANY faculty at USM who have written in favor of Shelby? I can recall only one -- a male professor in the same department, as I recollect, as Dana Thames. Have there been any others?

I am honored to be on the same USM/AAUP page as so many courageous people-- some I know, some I aspire to know, and MANY I hope to meet in the near future. And for Frank and Gary, my academic heroes …I owe you so much, for sacrificing unimaginable personal and professional costs for the sake of academic freedom. I had given the concept little thought until 2003. You could have ignored the envelope, canned the "questions" and I wouldn't even be writing on this message board. But you couldn't remain silent and I, for one, am grateful for your decision to do the right thing and take the high moral ground. And I know Gene has already been mentioned in a previous post, but special thanks to my cousin, Gene Saucier, and his wife, Guila, for their many letters to the editor, and editorials of support...especially for the College/School of Nursing.

This is beginning to sound like I am signing a high school yearbook, pardon the sentimentality of an early Sunday morning post.
