CISE certainly hasn't. At related conferences etc., the word has gotten around. No one without HUGE ties to this area or who are pretty weak with no ties to anywhere consider a job there anymore.
Music has done well but it is because (unlike what JoJo says), there are huge numbers of qualified and talented people searching for jobs. What is interesting to me is that though there were strong people in the applicant pool and so far the hires seem good, the number of applicants was down. It was surprisingly low for a couple of searches. I suspect that even in fields where faculty jobs are scarce, the word is out.

This year Political Science and International Development advertised for a chair. Some potential candidates asked about International Development and some asked about the administration. They got a grand total of two applicants, and one dropped out while being recruited. They were unable to fill the position.

How does the poli sci part of the house feel about that? What do you think the reason is?
The IDV side seems to be hiring like crazy. Maybe they'll just promote from within.
Alan Thompson of criminal justice is leaving for Old Dominion University. He was their rising star. Only two Hattiesburg faculty members from prior to the reorganization remain.
Is this intended to be a listing of persons who left due to frustrations with the administration? btw, pardon the question, I am new and trying to figure this one out.
The motive for leaving is not a criterion. These are just names of the departed or departing.

I can independently confirm this. The former associate professor is now free as a bird, and Lord knows he can't chaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnngggggeeeeeee.

Shouldn't Shelby Freland Thames be added to this list? Nothing would please me more than to see his name appear at the top....although I suppose his resignation/retirement/whatever couldn't be properly characterized as a "loss."
And then there were two wrote: Alan Thompson of criminal justice is leaving for Old Dominion University. He was their rising star. Only two Hattiesburg faculty members from prior to the reorganization remain.

I did check it out. We have our ways of doing that, you know. I don't know about the Lynyard SKynard part, but my mole tells me that the computer science faculty member's name is Hugh Garroway (Sp.?). My mole's not been wrong yet.
My mole, who used to walk the streets of NYC as a gumshoe before he got religion and joined us, dug deeper into your post than I had requested. He tells me that the BIRD to whom you refer is the late, great jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker who made a reputation playing at NYC's old jazz club called birdland.
