The Cox-Purvis Report got a moment of Coach Croom's time this evening, and will report a brief interview with him in a future issue. Meanwhile, a portion of the MSU coaching staff made its way to the 'burg tonight to address local Bully alumni. The maroon and white were out in full force tonight, and were excited about some of the plans for the future as laid out by Coach "C." More later.
Also in a future installment we will present "Mr. G's Report Card," a look back at Eagle sports records for the 2004-05 year. This is a compilation of earlier reports, but with some commentary.
Nothing new to report on the Lee-McNelis hurricane, though we are keeping our ears to the ground on that one. Also, Marcus Raines should be hitting campus in the next 2 weeks or so, scholarship in hand. Look for Daimon Eklund to get top draw for interviews (in the HA) when he arrives. The question is, will Raines pass Rashaad Carruth (going the other way) in the airport? Cox-Purvis may have breaking news on that front in a nearby issue.
I'm a graduate of USM who supported the Eagle's sports team during my 4 years but definitely spent more time in the Cook than in the Rock or the Greenhouse. Establishing that I’m not a EagleTalk kind of person is my first goal. What I don't understand the fascination Cox-Purvis has with shedding a negative light on USM athletics. We don't have as many fans at our sporting events as State and Ole Miss. We have to promise 2-1 just to get them here. We recruit felons. This isn't breaking news buddy. We aren’t going to be playing USC in the Rose Bowl next year. We don’t win 50 games in the regular season. Frank Glamser once said "The problem with athletics around here is we have a champagne appetite and a beer budget." If you want to cover something that the students really care about then start writing about intramurals, if not then please get a life. I really worry about someone who cares so much about the RPI of our softball team.

Just don't read it. No one is forcing you into these sports threads. CPR has broken a few stories, like others have on the academics side. CPR is an important part of this board.

Thames is the worst president in univ history. He puts athletics before academics. His propaganda machine spins lies about every facet of univ life. EagleTalkers love him. CoxPurvis digs deeper into sports issues. Shows Thames' sports lies. Gianninny is largely responsible for have Fleming removed as president. If CoxPurvis's Mr. G Report shows Gianninny to be subpar, then it needs to be outed. If you don't believe the CoxPurvis threads are at least minutely important you must be part of the thinking that started the old thread "Why faculty will lose the war...." or you are a sports supporter from Eagle Talk.
WhatsTheAgenda, we will take your concerns and comments under advisement. We'll send a reporter out to the intramural fields and see what we can stir up. Maybe ask some questions about Thames job as president and also report the Sigma Nu-SAE score while we're out there.
balk and watcher, thanks for the kudos. We'll continue to try and fill our sports reporting niche.

Why don't you change your name to "I'm so blinded by my love for USM athletics that I can't see the truth" or "a$$hole." Either one would be appropriate.
I've watched you and a few others twist facts to make USM athletics look better, but you never make much headway. Facts are facts, and no matter what spin you put on them, USM under Thames has become a cess pool.
It's really sad that firing James Green and recruiting players with shady backgrounds wasn't a quick fix for basketball. It's really sad that recruiting felons won't make the football team any better (USM Football Slogan 2005: "The Longest Yard"????). It's really sad that USM sports fans have to try to make their above-average baseball team into a "elite" baseball team by using pseudo-rpi instead of a real rpi because it makes them look better. It's sad that USM fans can't be happy with what they've got.
As for the Glamser quote, I suspect many don't understand it, because we have the same thing going on again and again. USM does have a beer budget. However, USM sports fans continually talk about how their sports are better than school x or school y or school z. That's like saying that Milwaukee's best is a better, more refined, higher-quality drink than Cristal or Dom Perignon. It's just not so. You've got a beer budget, and you've got two choices. The first is to be happy with it and to say so -- don't try to make absurd comparisons. The second is to continually yap about how yours is better than someone else's in hopes that eventually you will believe it. You're like a little yapping dog running around someone's feet: not cute, just annoying.
If you were content in your athletic station, then CPR wouldn't bother you so much. However, CPR's reports point out just how inadequate the USM athletics program is and how deluded you athletics kool-aid drinkers are.
It's sad that all you can do is call me vulgar names. I am betting you have no idea what I even meant by Felker-Crystal Report, do you?
You guys are so filled with hatred, for Thames you are beginning to hate everything USM. I don't care for Thames, but he's not bigger than USM, he can't controle my emotions like he can yours.
Maybe you should consider that if you can not seperate your emotions from the situation, that you may be better leaving USM. Because many here, hate Thames so much, they will continue to hate USM long after he's gone. It's an unhealthy situation for the University and the individual, and mostly for the students.

You make a few mistakes here. First, I am not emotional as I type these posts. I do not hate Thames, I just see him for the sham he is. I also don't see the need to attack a long-time poster who provides some factually based information regarding USM's athletics activities under Thames. Many here do hate Thames; however, once Thames is gone, they will regain some of their positive feelings for USM.
If you care about USM, then why don't you (and others like you) speak out against Thames? Why do you sit idly by? That's a coward's way out. You say you love USM and dislike Thames, but your actions say something completely different: "I like what Thames is doing for my sports programs."
Also, it should be the Felker-Cristil Report, not the Felker-Crystal Report. If you're going to insult my intelligence, at least spell the announcer's name correctly.
You post your name, I'll post mine....we'll go walk the streets together. How about that?
Point of fact, CPR dosen't post factual information all the time, they mostly post speculative information.
One example is the RPI they post. It's not the true RPI, because nobody knows the exact formula used by the NCAA to determine RPI, I don't know they who's RPI projection they use, but it's not better than the one Body Nation uses, Boyd has been projection RPI for years, and is generally the most accurate of anyone.

I've stayed out of this thread about as long as I can. Boyd Nation, no matter how many times you say it, is not the authority on college baseball. There is no evidence that Boyd's RPI is better than anyone's, except that it ranks USM higher right now.
Cox-Purvis' point, though, is that you see USM ranked as #31 today on Boyd's website and then say "our RPI is #31" for a whole week. In point of fact, RPI changes every time even a single game is played, even if your team doesn't participate in that game, because RPI counts opponents' RPI and SOS, which depends directly on other teams, and a domino effect occurs. For instance, Cox-Purvis reported that USM's RPI rose by 1 spot last night, even though they didn't play. Using an RPI that is updated daily gives the latest (and most accurate) information
Cox-Purvis' original argument was that USM still had to play several opponents with very weak RPI on any scale. As stated elsewhere on this board, playing weak teams can only weaken USM's RPI, even if they win them all. What happens if USM loses some of those games? The USM RPI plummets.

And this board eats it up. USM has a very good baseball team in near the Top 10% in the nation. #30 -32 out of 290 baseball playing I-A schools. That is outstanding, but still you guys try to degrade it. If if were football that would equate to a Top 15 ranking.
I just get so discouraged in trying to support this group when, they find so much joy in a setback for the athletic program. They consider Athletics to be a Thames toy, so they wish to see it weakend just like everything else related to Thames.
I don't like Thames, but USM is bigger than Thames, and I will not stop enjoying baseball or any other sport, regardless of who is president.

KK, remember that most USM faculty went to school at other places (Texas, Georgia, Virginia, etc.). So they can, if they want, revel in USM's athletics failures without being emotional. For instance, Georgia has won 2 national championships in the past 1.5 months. So, USM losing is just the filling in the doughnut, not the whole pastry.

OK. Fine. You are basically saying, "As long as athletics are still going strong, Thames is palateable." What rank was USM in US News and World Report when Thames took over? What rank is it now? (Hint: It was Tier III and now it's Tier IV). You (and many others) are willing to argue that USM's baseball team is "elite" when it's actually "very good." However, you seem to care very little about academic rankings: "bottom quarter" seems good enough. If you and your like-minded sports supporters would use some of your energy asking questions about USM's academic rankings in a public forum, maybe this message board wouldn't exist. To correct one last fallacy: If Thames gets 4 more years, USM will be Thames (not bigger than, not smaller than, just identical to). Give him 4 more years and watch him screw up everything the way he's screwed up academics. Rogue coaches and felonious players are just the beginning. Maybe when the NCAA investigator comes calling those of you who are turning a blind eye to Thames' activities will get a taste of reality.
If you disagree with one stinking point on this board then someone is going to accuse you of being a Thames supporter, childish. Thanks to the geniuses that wrote if I don't like what CPR is writing then don't read it, great advice. That is getting kind of hard when "they", as if it's not one lonely guy sitting at his computer cooking up rumors, post every five minutes when another crackpot theory comes to "their" head. I suggest "they" go to Southern Hall and take a couple classes in journalism. May "we" suggest Gene Wiggins. Go ahed rip me just because I think that an adult who thinks "they" are making a diffrence by writing about RPI's, Alumni Meetings, and 2-1's are lame. After you get done at the intramurel fields, which I doubt you can find because I truly beleive you do not live in Hattiesburg, go over to the Liberal Arts Building and write about the RPI over there. In the LAB it stands for Relocating Professor Index and we are leading the nation in it.

Truly funny in a horrible sort of way.
Kudzu King, you can't make blanket statements about what "this board" does or doesn't do. We've explained it endless times. It's open. Anybody can post anything. There is very little agreement beyond certain core issues. You continue to perpetuate the lie that people who oppose the Thames administration also oppose everything good that happens at USM, including its sports victories.

I happen to know for a fact that the CPR is indeed produced by 2 (not 1) people, and, get this, the main one is female. That's the best thing about CPR to me.
