Bond issue wins approval

Unofficial returns Tuesday night from the Lamar County school bond issue referendum show voters approved the $43 million proposal.

With 43 of 43 boxes counted, 7,920 voters, or 64.76 percent, were in favor of the bond issue while 4,310, or 35.24 percent, were opposed.

The bond issue required a 60 percent majority in order to pass.
