Congrats to the Lady Eagle softball team for closing out the series against East Carolina, 2-1. The Eagles now head to Tampa for C-USA tourney as the #6 seed, where they will again face East Carolina (#3 seed). The Lady Pirates have won over 50 games so far this year, while Coach McNutt continues to struggle to win half as many games each year as her predecessor did. Right now the Lady Eagles are 28-30.
The Eagle baseball team is in a weeklong hiatus. They are currently #33 in RPI and will face #62 USF this weekend in a home series. Things are getting tight.
Meanwhile, Sylvester Croom and other members of his coaching staff at MSU will be in Hattiesburg tonight to speak to local area Bulldog alumni (e.g., Carl Nicholson) at Southern Oaks. Croom is expected speak on the importance of the MSU pipeline into Hattiesburg High School, as well as the need for all local area MSU alums to do whatever they can to keep Shelby Thames in place as USM's President. It should be a packed house.
Remember When?: USM last played cross-town baseball foe William Carey in a 3-game set on 4/26 through 4/28 of 1996 (10 years ago). What went down?
Can it really be called a "Bulldog Invasion"? I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't more MSU fans in Hattiesburg than there are USM fans. I certainly see more Mississippi State paraphanalia on campus than I do USM. Maybe this should be titled "Bulldog Stronghold Rally."
Congratulations (to porto!), we have a winner. William Carey swept the series with a combined score of 34-8 over three games. Since 1996, USM has answered the call to play WCC again with "No, not now..."
Once again, some needs to correct you on the baseball RPI. Boyd's World (recognized as the best web page for RPI ratings), has the Eagles at 31. They are in good shape for a third straight NCAA tournament berth.

We don't use Boyd's World. If you notice, he calls it Pseudo RPI (I trust you understand Pseudo). In that sense his #31 is pseudo-the-real-#33. Check the website we gave you last week. Unlike Boyd's, it's updated just after midnight every day.
Speaking of getting corrected, you are the one talking about average attendance figures without looking it up. USM<Auburn, as you found out.
[Read Boyd's page, he doesn't even know the real RPI formula. He admits it. He uses a formula that's "close."]

You are a very sloppy debater. Don't have facts. Too lazy to look things up. You said last week the Eagles were in good shape at #24. Now you're saying they are in good shape at #31. In two weeks they'll be #45 at this pace. Still in good shape? I doubt it.
Oh, and please respond by saying that USM has a higher average attendance than Ole Miss. I won't have to go far to have the data I need to refute your post.
No one knows exactly how the official RPI is calculated (except the NCAA I suppose). Here is a quote from Boyd's World: " These are not the official RPI's, but I've been able to verify the formula and bonus amounts I'm using with the official results from the 2001 and 2004 seasons; they are extremely close to the official ones."
In reality, there is little difference between the two. I just find it interesting you choose the RPI that is the highest. Of course, I know your agenda and to your credit you stick with it.

We are friends with a sports website moderator/reporter in Florida who uses the RPI all the time. It's no state secret. [In fact, his argument is that the statistic is the biggest piece of crap in all of sports, but we won't get into that argument -- it's irrelevant to this debate] We love you man. Stick around for more.

That "butter" dude is taking a meat axe to your attendance statement on the other thread. He has figures for 2002 and 2003 now, and USM is still behind. Why should anyone be on your side about this RPI thing with that record?
Actually, if you use Boyd's RPI, you'll still see that there is no way that USM won't realistically drop in the RPI even if they win out. Their upcoming opponents are extremely weak, RPI-wise.
Second, USM is 10-10 in its last 20. This statistic is used by the committee along with RPI.
I concur with CPR. The Eagles need to get to 40 wins to have a shot at a regional (which would help correct that .500 win pct in the last X games played). I would argue that they also need to raise their RPI, which would probably mean getting deep into the CUSA tournament (and probably beating Tulane).
As a realist, I think this is going to be a tall order.
