"...Board President Roy Klumb called the meeting a working session to take a serious look at the situation. Klumb said the discussions got heated at times...."

There followed a clip of ol' Roy, often looking at the wall next to him, trying to avoid the reporter's eyes: "You got uh, you got uh, 12 pretty bright people in there, and 12 people who have strong opinions and uh, and uh, [Klumb shrugs here] they expressed them. Sometimes they raised their voice."

I'd say this is the best news of the day. About time things got "passionate" at the IHL. Raising their voices, huh? Heated at times....sounds like someone (whoever called this 'special' meeting) was trying to pull a fast one and some of the '12 bright people in the room' said 'no dice.' I can't help wondering who was trying to pull the fast one and who was impeding their progress. Guess we will never know.

This sounds logical, David; I hope you're right.  Certainly this is better news than what I had been fearing.

Or, it could have gone like this:

#1: We need to discuss USM's presidential situation. It's getting out of hand.

#s 2-6: Yeah.

#7: What do you mean? There's nothing to discuss. We have to show that USM faculty that we are in charge. Thames is our man and we're not going to remove him just because he's stepped on some toes.

#s 8-12: Yeah.

#s 1-6: That's stupid.

#s 7-12: No, you're stupid.

#s 1-6: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

#s 7-12: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

#s 1-6: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

#s 7-12: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

#s 1-6: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

#s 7-12: NO, YOU'RE STUPID!

And, at the end of the day, we get no more info from the IHL than we had at the beginning of the "special meeting." I see no reason to view any of this "special meeting" as positive.

The mere possibility that someone might be calling Klumb stupid to his face would be positive news in my book!

Just saw this clip on the 10pm edition. Was very struck by RK's body language and facial expression. Must not have been pretty in the room today.

LVN,

Can you explain your reaction in greater detail?  Thanks.

"info" described it pretty well -- he seemed discomfited. It's hard to describe the way somebody "seems" -- that's so subjective, and we tend to see what we want to see. He didn't "seem" like the blustering, assertive Klumb of former days.

But -- was he discomfited because he was exhausted from a narrowly won victory, or was he discomfited because his guys got stomped or was he discomfited because it was three hours of futility? You couldn't tell from the clip. I wish the reporters were free to give their impressions.
