Anyone know this Board member who can enlighten him a little?
Dr. Stacy Davidson Jr., a College Board member from Cleveland, said he has not made up his mind about Thames, but he thinks "things are going satisfactory" at USM.
"I'm going to look at it with an open mind ... the main thing I want to do is get the accreditation reinstated as quickly and as positively as possible," Davidson said. "None of us are perfect, including Dr. Thames and presidents of other universities, too."

A College Board member from Cleveland? That must be Cleveland, Ohio and not Cleveland, Mississippi. Mississippians are more astute than that.
Dr. Davidson's comments lead me to believe that he has already made up his mind before hearing Croft's report. I find this troubling. I find it troubling that a board member has broken ranks and spoken out when there was an agreement that the president would speak for the trustees.
Amy, your point is well made. I am wondering if the whole meeting isn't just a strategy session for keeping SFT around. Davidson may have broken ranks to start building rapport with public about the positives re SFT.
"We allowed Horace Fleming's contract to come down to the wire before we seriously got into discussion of whether the division of the board was for Horace to stay or not to stay," Klumb said. "The board agreed to take a harder look at presidential contract renewals at least a year out."
The real reason for that is that it took the athletics crowd (Giannini and spouse) and the BIDness community, working with Nicholson, that long to get their stuff together to overthrow him. That was a month and a half after he denied the demand of that crowd for another $1 million for athletics. Is this interesting or what?
Off the IHL press release page: 5/4/2005 (JACKSON ) -
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) will be held on Friday, May 6, 2005. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. The Board will discuss an IHL Board office personnel matter.
The Board will meet in the 9th floor Board room of the Paul B. Johnson Jr. Tower Building in the Education and Research Center, located at 3825 Ridgewood Road in Jackson.
An Executive Session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.
Question, is this an attempt with this special meeting for Krumb as prez to get SFT "approved" for another term BEFORE Virginia can become prez????????
What is really sad is that more taxpayers' money must be spent to bring the trustees to Jackson to hold a special session just for Shelby Thames. I think that fact speaks volumes about how much is wrong here!

Amen!
Does anyone have an e-mail address for Dr. Davidson?
Is there anything else we can do before tomorrow's meeting that might help?
