Faculty evaluations are out and people are fuming, depositions are about to begin with former and current admins in the college on other issues, etc. This has been hell week and it continues.....

Finally the rest of the university has caught up with the college of business where there areadministrators with hidden agendas, personal axes to sharpen and use against individual faculty, rules that do not apply to everyone, etc. Welcome to our world Southern Miss.
Evals were handled with a centralized meeting of administrators, but some faculty got theirs on Tuesday, While some got theirs as late as Thursday afternoon. Two major committee chairs resigned on the heels of a major department chair resignation (Williams). Another chair wants out. Other administrators want out of their positions. Doty looks like hell. Word is none of his nets caught any fish, job search-wise. He kicked faculty in the crotch upon his arrival at USM, has continued to do so, and now will need faculty help to get reaccredited by AACSB and to get himself out of USM relatively unscathed.

I think the North Florida job was an inside job with the other candidate HD was up against. I haven't gotten a good look at him recently ("...looks like hell."), but hasn't traversed the 3rd floor of JGH like he has in the past.
I know of one major committee chair resignation. I didn't hear about the other. What is it?

What time's the meeting? Always thought it was sort of ego-centric to call a meeting just to announce that you're leaving ( if that's what is about to happen)...as if everyone cares enough to stop what they're doing to go listen to you annouce that you're leaving. just send and email and pack your boxes.
I have heard that annual evaluations in JGH are so low that some are below 1.0 and the faculty are less than happy. It seems that Doty is taking his frustration on not finding a job out on the faculty.

With the current standard, it should be impossible to get an eval less than 1.0 unless you are a complete slug or you are a target. From what I know about the COB, it isn't full of slugs, so the "projected anger" theory may apply.
A real question could be: Why slam anyone on evals in a year with no raises? This just smacks of a$sholery to me.

Perhaps kicking the associate dean has ceased to be a fun game.
New CoB game: evaluation numbers are open for negotiation if you go talk to Doty. Apparently he merely wanted to get the attention of some faculty by giving low scores, not be administrator enough to stand behind the scores. The obvious question is how are faculty supposed to know signal from scores? If you were expecting a 4 to 4.5 in a category and receive a 3.25, is that a signal to come chat or a lower appraisal of your work? Perhaps there is a hidden Da Doty Code that tells the faculty. Perhaps without any support inside or outside the College he now wants to be Monty Hall.
I have been hearing the same rumors in the hallway about our annual evaluations. Annual evaluations that are not really correct but only there to get your attention suggests a dean that is struggling to get faculty to make him look good so he can get a job elsewhere. I can only imagine the credibility issue for all the other administrators in the college.

Perhaps an "-ish" score: 2-ish, nearly 3, more than 3.5, almost 4, etc.
Won't "means" be important then.
I wonder how Doty will like be evaluated under such terms when he is a faculty member after being removed as dean this summer? Foolish me; no one else, not even at Syracuse, would use such an evaluation plan.

If one can read the signs correctly, it will only be the summer because finals are this coming week. Maybe he will last until the week before the Fall.
It does not seems like any other school is in a rush to steal him away from USM. I understand parts of Syracuse are still partying due to the USM hiring of Doty.
