I know we have had discussions on the board about holding on to or dropping season tickets to athletics events. What I am wondering is how many of you have folded any annual contributions that once made to the academics side of USM into other charitable contributions (e.g., American Heart Association, your own alma mater, your church, etc.) that you make?
Is there a large piece of art glass (white) on display in the dome?? My family made a modest contribution towards buying it, if so, in my late sister's memory. Nowadays we donate to churches, LASPCA, etc. instead.
One of my donations last year was to the national AAUP. They have various funds you can support (academic freedom, contingent faculty, etc.). I didn't give them much, but I considered it my donation to help future Stringers and Glamsers. I hope to give them more in the future.
A month or two ago the bookstore was closing out some logo items. I wouldn't take it even if they were giving the merchandise away for free. I wont wear a USM shirt, hat or front license plate logo. This is shameful. In fact, it's becoming hard to drive around town with a hang tag.

Yep. I can't wait to buy a USM shirt the day the Board fires him. Then again, I may not be buying said shirt for years.
I don't donate to the United Way through USM anymore, but rather make my donation directly. I don't want SFT to be able to brag about how he's encouraged his minions to support UW.
Yep, me too. No USM t shirts, sweat shirts, all in my family closets were given to Christian Services; all tags removed from cars one year ago this month, NO United Way to USM, given individually, we keep one scholarship, since it goes to a student; no more contributions to USM, dropped our Alumni membership one year ago --after Gary and Frank's hearing; and we have only been to two baseball games, dropped season tickets to football one year ago. All USM hats were given away and I cleaned out my son's USM "stuff", including banners, shirts, horns, etc. The only thing on my car is the obligartory parking hanger and I placed it on the SIDE window holder. WHen USM foundation and fund raisers call me at home, I tell them why I do not donate and when I WILL DONATE again...when the dome is purged or Shelby Thames and his cronies. Further, I haven't attended any of the so called "input hearings" or commented on any of the SACS "work", although I support and applaud my colleagues who have done so because of their loyalty to USM. And I haven't attended any more graduations since SPring of 2004. GUess my demerits are adding up.

If anyone is interested, I understand there is an effort underway to get a license plate approved to promote breast cancer awareness, with the designated funds going toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's work in Mississippi. 200 license plates must be pre-sold before they are available for purchase in each county.
Please post, or contact me via Truth, if you find out more about these. My sister died four years ago this month of breast cancer, and I will certainly buy one of these.

Apparently this is a recently-passed state law that provides for the production of this license plate, so it has been approved but requires 200 to be pre-sold. I learned about it through an announcement that appeared in a recent statewide publication. The announcement was placed by a Jackson-area physician who specializes in cosmetic surgery, so I would guess that physicians in this area (as well as FGH's Cancer Center) are aware of the plate and can provide details.
