The state College Board has selected state Superintendent of Education Hank Bounds as the preferred candidate to become Mississippi's next commissioner of higher education.

 

 

Dan Jones, vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the school of medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, has been selected as the preferred pick to become the next Ole Miss chancellor....

It's hard to believe that the state's higher education system is going to be under someone who has no experience in higher education and no experience outside of Mississippi, regardless of his personal talents. One can't help but wonder if this suggests that truly qualified candidates were unwilling to apply.

Curmudgeon, I agree.

According to the clarion ledger blog, Jim Cofer, the University of Louisiana - Monroe president, interviewed for the job.  I don't know him, but his resume seems more in line with what I would expect for this job.
