This administration will end...another will begin & it may or may not be any better...
Do everything you can to make this a great place for the kids who choose to attend, for the staff who serves you and even for the people who may be able to claim the glory they do not deserve...

There will always be those who do not understand what you do. You will not change their opinions by degrading others - even if it's true!

We only hurt ourselves by spending so much time being unproductive. Teach, Serve, Publish...
or perish.

Anyone, including myself, who comes to the board regularly to see what happened today...
I am just suggesting that there might be a better use of time than involving so much of ourselves in the board.
You do not have to agree with me, I am "just thinking out loud".

I have to say that I DO disagree with you, for whatever it's worth.  It's largely because of the community formed and sustained by this board that there is now a realistic chance that Shelby may be gone before long.  THEN people really WILL be able to get back to a total focus on the more important things in life.  Until Shelby is gone, though, it seems "unproductive" to let up on the pressure this board helps to foster.  "Just an opinion . . . "

I think you're missing a crucial point or two...


The Thames administration has threatened the survival of USM.


And it has threatened to destroy the careers of those academics who invest none of their energies either in getting it replaced, or in finding jobs at another university not run by the likes of Shelby Thames.


I think faculty members need to get more involved in governance even when their universities are being run by "just another administration."  But Thames and crew are qualitatively worse.
