I'm hearing nothing will happen vis-... Dr. Thames' position at USM President, and that certain board members will stall on the new board restructuring plan. Also, expect several of the presidents to give testimony to full board that is critical of Crofts.
Board members heard that not very many showed up to Campbell's seminar on Friday; some want to know who funded the travel.

With all due respect to Dr. Campbell, I would hope that the board has more to do than worry about one person showing up and giving a lecture. In fact, one would hope that someone showing up and giving a lecture is a daily event on a university campus. I doubt anyone on the board cares. AAUP is not a subsidary of USM and can fund the travel of anyone it wants to hear. Gimme a break! The trolls must be feeling bored and/or threatened this morning.

Who among them will be allowed to talk to the press?

They should be mindful of the fact that it is a small room. A busload of people will not fit. They will not be allowed to speak. Their friends on the board are already their friends, and our friends are already our friends. I attended a recent meeting, and it was interesting, but my presence didn't help or hinder anyone.
And on this bus will be second, third, and fourth cousins as well as people who owe him favors. The term non-partisan is clearly not in his list of important terms.

I'm reasonably sure you're just kidding or trying to get some dander's up, but nonetheless I feel compelled to say something: if I were on the IHL and such a chartered bus arrived for the meeting, I would feel insulted. Even if nothing else had gotten through to me about USM's plight, I would know when that bus arrived that things at USM were way out of hand.

i was told by a person scheduled to go on the trip...no more details
if i was hookwinked, i certainly apologize
maybe someone will report the attendance at ihl meeting tomorrow
Any news yet from the IHL meeting? Somehow I can just imagine all the Shelby supporters on the bus singing "a hundred bottles of beer on the wall" to while away the time during the trip . . . .

Excuse me, but has ANYBODY confirmed that there was (or is) a bus going to the IHL meeting?
Pssssst! Guys! (and gals!) I'm actually ON the bus right now! I'm typing this on my blackberry, so I've got to keep my postings short, but I'll try to provide some accounts of what's happening! The most important thing I can reveal right now is that SHELBY IS DRIVING! Woops . . . gotta go! The guy behind me is looking over my shoulder!
Whew! That was close. Okay, here's what's happening: right now everyone is singing, "Shelby, Shelby, he's our man! If he can't beat 'em, nobody can!" Cans of "Jesus Juice" are circulating freely. Everybody seems to be in a real "up" mood right now. Shouts of "Give 'em hell, Toy!" Gotta go . . .
Shelby seems to be in a good mood, too! Keeps taking his hands from the wheel and laughing -- shouting something about "and this is how I run USM, too!" Keeps yelling, "Is everybody having FUN?!?!?!?!?"
"The Board also heard a subcommittee recommendation on annual performance goals to be used in evaluating universities and institutional executive officers. The goals, which will vary from institution to institution in order to take into account differences in universities’ missions, will be considered in final form in the May Board meeting. In addition, the College Board began considering a measure which would require annual evaluation of the institutional executive officers."

Jesus Juice....you're killing me! (metaphor alert)
The Board also approved a recommendation to allow the University of Southern Mississippi to create a new School of Computing within the College of Science and Technology from the former Department of Computer Science. The move combines programs in the computer science department with other programs from the former School of Engineering Technology. . . . The next regularly scheduled Board meeting will be May 19, 2005 at the Board Office in Jackson.

I don't know about the fan bus but the wheels on the reform bus, although turning, are turning very slowly. Hope they don't fall off before reaching Reform.
Somebody just asked Shelby if he ever feels picked on, abused, and bealeaguered like Michael Jackson. He replied, "Yeah, but, just like him, I'm holdin' my own!"
Some of the ladies have their pom-poms out now and are doing cheers in the aisle: "1, 2, 3, 4 -- we love Shelby, we want more!" . . . . WHOA! I didn't know that dentist's wife even knew how to DO cartwheels!!!
I'm worried that things may be getting out of hand. "Toy" is hanging out of one of the windows now with a pistol, shooting out the tires of cars with UM and MSU license plates. Keeps yelling how he's "not goin' take any of this crap any more!"
They managed to get "Toy" back in out of the window; now he's leading us all in prayer. Excerpt: "Lord, bless our Shelby and look graciously on all his works!"
Everybody is now cheering "Toy" and saying how good his watches look. He's got two on each arm, one hanging from a chain, and one wrapped around his ankle. They're all pretty shiney-looking.

I'm crying, I'm laughing so hard! More, more, more, OTB!
Uh-oh! A cop pulled Shelby over for speeding and "wreckless driving." Shelby started cussin' him out: "How do you think you ARE -- Crofts!?!?!?!?" Miss Mader tried to smooth things over, but I think she only made things worse when she said, "Officer, he only talks this way when he's been drinking!"
