So, after months of alternating hope and despair this question keeps coming to my mind?
Where in the world is Aubrey K. Lucas?
We all can understand why he didn't speak out about reorganization. As much as he might have disapproved of the way it was handled, he would have thought that USM was now SFT's school. He (Lucas) would not meddle.
But last spring, why did he not speak out? He knew both Glamser and Stringer. Glamser had been a campus leader since his arrival. He was known as an excellent teacher and for his dedicated service to the university. Stringer had been faculty senate president. Lucas knew they weren't crooks. Why did he sit there and let SFT and Co. say that?
Now, a year later, he continues to say nothing. There was a time that he was so respected in the community and in the state that he could have brought a halt to all this. Now one has to wonder if he has lost any influence he might have had. Whatever is true about his influence, he has lost the respect of many people. He did not have the courage to stand up and speak the truth.
Late though it is, he still should do so. Where in the world is Aubrey Lucas?
I saw him on campus late last spring and thought he didn't look too good. Many people on this board have suggested he has been working behind the scenes. But I also think many people have been asking the same questions you've asked here.
I see him at the Payne Center with his wife between 6 and 6:15 am almost every morning. They usually work out until about 7 am. He looks to be in better shape than some of the students I see working out.
