Frankly, I think Monique de Guerre would have been a far more charming escort to show Mr. Domingo around the Gulf coast. I'm sure he would have loved a ride in the 'vette with a woman of taste and sophistication.
It is my understanding that John Palmer,American Ambassador to Portugal and a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, will no longer be the Portugal Ambassador. Another appointment has been made by President Bush for this coming term. Palmer is expected to return to Jackson soon.
Palmer signed the protocol that will allow the USSM and UMinho to join in a "Partnership for innovation which will allow the two university to exchange academic staff, researchers and students, as well as promote scientific initiatives in both countries in polymer science, technology and related fields" (USM, Office of Research and Economic Development, Hattiesburg, May 13, 2004). I don't know if this means that nothing else will be forthcoming or if anything has been done at all. Has anyone heard of anything?
From what I understand Kelli Booth is Malone's wife and she worked for John Palmer for ten years. That would explain John's interest in the project.
How kind of you to suggest that I escort darling Placido! He is my most, most favorite tenor and has far the superior voice to Luciano. One most only listen to the original Three Tenors to know that this is true. Carreras, one does not consider him "in the running" as you say.
However, without my chauffeur, Jean-Claude, I was reluctant to take the 'Vette into a maelstrom of traffic. Neither the 'Vette nor myself are as young as we once were and we do not venture far afield. Miss Angleterre was not available to navigate -- and for some reason, she never seems eager to ride with me -- but also I was informed that Dervish would not be allowed inside, and I do not like to travel without him. Pauvre chien, his ears would not have enjoyed the music in any case! It would have been a good opportunity for Jean-Claude to speak with his mentor, M. Malone, now that J-Cl. had completed his PhD in economical sleight of hand, or whatever he was studying, but he was tied up in Wiggins with the family, and has resumed the use of his boring name, Jimmy Claude Ray Something. Alors!
I hope they all enjoyed the party, although I doubt the champagne was any good. I would love to have hosted a small gathering for dear Placido and his lovely companion, but scheduling did not permit. At this time of year one is able to do amazing canapes with the fresh asparagus, though one must be careful to keep Dominique away from it, as we learned recently. I am sure that Placido would have much enjoyed meeting those with actual taste in music. One wonders what M. Thames has on his iPod.
Bonne nuit to all. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful day which le bon Dieu gave us.
