Gotta love this student, I do.

Excerpt:

I would also be terribly disappointed if the university is not removed from probation. I think I did well on the assessment, so I have helped a little. Whatever the outcome, I hope the university will realize what is important in an education and how best to improve it. I suggest higher standards, giving prominent faculty in all fields a reason to stay, and funding what is important, such as making sure the library has books.

People nowadays seem too pressured by money, power and politics to remember or even care about such simple concepts. If indeed our university is swayed by these influences, I want to see that change.

If my memory serves me, Amanda Perkins wrote one of the best papers I have ever received (in 15 years at 6 different institutions) in my introductory course for nonmajors. I believe she is also the student who wrote the editorial against cancelling class for a football game. Heck, given her smarts and values, perhaps the IHL board should look at her as a possible presidential candidate.

How very true. What's done is done. The past is the past. One can't "revise" history. But one can learn from history, and that seems to be a rare administrative commodity around here. It will take more than words on paper. What has happened at USM is going to be hard to explain away. If there is any hope of pulling this thing out of the fire the thing that is required is a WHOLE NEW ATTITUDE followed by action not words.

Its good to see the school paper show an interest in the implosion of the Universty. Frankly, I've been quite shocked by the lack of student interest in the rapid erosion of the quality of their education and credentials. I chock it up to pure apathy.

I wish the IHL wouldn't wait so long before releasing the white smoke.

The person who wrote the column about the football game was Amanda Winters, who already graduated from USM.
