Not to get everyone's hopes up, but I heard a rumor tonight that Mader is leaving. She has accepted the position of PR director at Wesley Hospital. Can anyone confirm this?
the people at that hospital must be really sick if they hired her for pr. perhaps the hospital staff should seek an appointment at pinebelt mental health asap.

Who needs Pinebelt when we're about to get our own psychiatrist on campus? A little Prozac is what we all need!

"M.D. in Psychiatry" (see the ad)....what idiot wrote this? Ken Malone? One does not declare a major in medical school. The only major is medicine. One becomes a psychiatrist by completing medical school, then an internship, then a psychiatric residency, then passing the requisite board exams.
I can't believe how many vacant positions there are at USM right now...I have never seen so many assistant professor positions advertised at one time. Also, did they downgrade the position of "chair" of Polymer Science to "director?" That job posting is confusing...
Anyone who knows anything who looks at this list can tell that things are bad at USM.
So Mader is replacing Katherine Pittman at Weasley? That seems very unlikely because I don't think they could chase Pittman away with a stick. Do keep us posted, would be interesting to know if that's true.

Yesterday's HA had a small piece about Pittman (can someone find and post it?), stating that she was taking some new position there. Maybe that's how LM can be brought on board.

Another strange thing about the position announcement: " . . . and be a licensed psychiatrist." I believe that one is "licensed" to "practice medicine." One is not "licensed" as a psychiatrist any more than one is licensed as a pediatrician, cardiologist, urologist, or gastroenterologist. You're expected to practice within your limits of competence, of of course, but the "license" is not in the speciality field.

You are correct. Generally speaking, a license to practice medicine allows one to legally practice any kind of medicine, whether or not they're residency trained and board certified. In other words, the greenest M.D. who possesses only a state license to practice may legally attempt the most complex neurosurgical procedure. It would likely be his only attempt, but it would be legal. It's actually the hospitals, and to a lesser extent the insurance companies, which act as gatekeepers, preventing untrained physicians from attempting procedures they're unqualified to undertake. Typically one cannot obtain hospital staff or admitting privileges unless the appropriate clinical training and board certification has been completed. I believe the USM position announcement should have specified a physician with Mississippi licensure, board certified in neuro-psychiatry. Board certification is the key.

I know them all. They're very competent. How do you think those two sloppy errors slipped by?

Just another example of the health care system sticking it to the American working man. Spend that PR money on reducing patients' bills.
I'M NOT LISA MY NAME IS SHELBY LISA LEFT YOU... YEARS AGO. MY EYES ARE NOT BLUE, BUT MINE WON'T LEAVE YOU, 'TIL THE SUNLIGHT HAS TOUCHED YOUR FACE. SHE WAS YOUR MORNING LIGHT. HER SMILE TOLD OF NO NIGHT. YOUR LOVE FOR HER GREW, WITH EACH PASSING SUN. AND THEN ONE APRIL DAY, HIS HAND LED HER AWAY. SHE LEFT YOU HERE, DROWNING IN YOUR TEARS. HERE, WHERE YOU STAYED FOR YEARS, CRYING "LISA", "LISA." I'M NOT LISA, MY NAME IS SHELBY LISA LEFT YOU... YEARS AGO. MY EYES ARE NOT BLUE, BUT MINE WON'T LEAVE YOU, 'TIL THE SUNLIGHT SHINES THROUGH YOUR FACE. I'M NOT LISA.

Ever since marketing departments at hospitals came into existance I thought the idea was more mercenary-oriented than patient-oriented. Why should hospital hustle business in that manner? I know they do it, but that doesn't make it right. Just thinking about it raises my deductable!

I think hospital marketing departments had its beginning in the private hospitals (along with those hugh billboards like some lawyers have along the highways). Now, however, even public hospitals have marketing departments.
Maybe she knows that the President's contract won't be renewed and she's gettin' out while the gettin' is good. A certain way to save face from being fired. Just a thought.
PR does not necessarily mean marketing. If a doctor or the hospital is getting bad press for one reason or another, she should have good experience working with the HA to put a "good spin" on the party/parties who employ her.

Then maybe I was thrown off when I saw the nameplate "Marketing" on office doors in various hospitals. Perhaps they've changed the name of that department to something else. If not public relations, do you know which hospital department is responsible for the large amount of advertising some hospital's do in soliciting business through highway billboards, television spots, and large newspaper advertisements?

Recently overheard on the patio at the Mahogany, in the wee hours, from you-know-who...
Rich doctors? Surely that quote can't be accurate. Isn't Lisa still Ronnie Musgrove's main squeeze? Or did their "thing" falter when he was defeated? I haven't been able to keep abreast of the latest Mississippi celeb couples.
Her PR experience was gained at the sacrifice of credibility, sharply diminishing her future effectiveness in a similar capacity for another employer--at least to anyone who has been paying attention, and who cares about such things as truth and integrity as a basis for media relations.
I implore everyone to refrain from personally attacking people and spreading rumours about people's personal lives, regardless of their position, or yours, on any issues. It is tacky, cowardly and unfair. If you have to trash talk, and name individuals, then have the guts to put your own name to it.
