Am I the only one who's noticed the conspicuous absence of Dr. Invictus? I've heard it rumored that he's been in Hattiesburg this week interviewing for the USM Provost slot. Normally I'd discount such reports, but now that the ban on hiring USM graduates has been lifted I must assign some credibility to this story. If anyone should happen to see Dr. Invictus at the Thames covered dish supper this evening, please convey our concern and implore him to resume his AAUP board activities. I have the sense that many of the ill tempered posts of this week would never have appeared, had his calming influence and Bob Dylan quotes been in evidence.
Dr. I must wait for the presidency now becuase Thames' latest bad decision (in a list becoming too cumbersome to document) was to cancel the provost's search after wasting faculty time for over six months. I guess it was his only way out after promising it to three internal candidates who couldn't get through the committee.

I am not in the least comforted by your comments. Whether Dr. Invictus awaits the USM provostship or its presidency is immaterial. He is still missing. I fear that as chief Thamesian conspiracy theorist, Dr. Invictus came too close to discovering the truth, and was eliminated. Reflect if you will on the many unexplained disappearances from this message board. Judge Cooley, Gurunuberg, Austin Eagle, Seeker, Mme. de Guerre, Noel Polk (surely you are not naive enough to believe Dr. Polk is really in Starkville)...all have vanished into the ether. I submit to you that this is more than mere coincidence. In one way or another, they became threats, and they were silenced by agents of the dome. It makes my blood run cold.
I'm sorry, CC, didn't mean to by cryptic. Miss Information can be very needy on Sundays and this is Invictus' week to help her with the Nd'A competition. I'm going to be otherwise engaged in recovering from having way too much fun.
I have not disappeared!! Did you not read Miss Angleterre's post of this morning regarding our electricity situation? I do not risk my precious computer when the lightening comes! ======================
You will excuse me for the time being, however. I am closely watching the news this afternoon, with a sad and grateful heart for the great servant who is now leaving us. I do not feel so much in the frame of mind for humor.

I'm sad about the Pope, too (and I'm not even Catholic). I accompanied a Catholic friend of mine to see the Pope (in his Pope-mobile) in New Orleans back in '86 or '87. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I'll never forget. I'm sending thoughts for a safe passage for him right now.
