What I don't understand is how one can teach "brass methods and materials" on line.  Materials?  Yes.  But methods?   The student needs to do some playing to really master this.  Does one toot his horn over the internet?  Gary Adam is an ethical man, so he must think this is possible.  Wonder if NASM, the music accrediting body, does.

Big push in music to get an online master's in music education, crammed down faculty throats by Charles Elliott and Steve Moser. Note that music history is not taught by a music historian with a PhD in the discipline, but by an (untenured) flutist.

Yes, brass methods online is a total joke. But NASM came last year, so they won't be able to complain for awhile. But someone should e-mail SACS.

Gee whiz, Lowell, I guess I really blew it (and I'm not even a brass player--ha-ha, very funny, eh?): stupidly fought against the push for online music courses, even gave up my job and fabulous salary at USM in order to put USM's problems behind me and move my life forward. Had I been smarter, I could be teaching for USM's School of Virtual Music--online, from a safe distance almost anywhere on the planet. Why, it even sounds like I could be teaching courses I'm virtually unqualified to teach. What a trip! And I missed the chance...

Oh, well, "live and learn." Or is it "we grow too soon old and too late smart?" But online education will make those sayings obsolete, won't it?
