I don't know why you guys can't keep quiet about peoples' promotions until they come down. What if this got sabotaged? I think you should OK it with him first. This should be kept quiet until it is announced officially.

A chairpersonship is not a promotion. It is merely a title and change in job description. Chairs at the best schools serve their time and then drop the title chair.

Actually, Department Chair positions carry a hefty stipend in the CoB, according to one source close to JGH.

Babin is the choice, from what I heard too. As for the stipend, he'll get Summer pay for his rank and then some more built into his base.

Doesn't his wife work in the same department? If so, how will they work that out?

Where do you get this fallacious information? Administrative jobs in the CoB have long been "gold watches" for years of "faithful" service (Williams excluded). They do carry extra money. Some of it may be under the table, but it's still there.
