Just at the point in the semester when I begin, as a faculty member, to dispair, a student reminds me of our place. Thanks Chris Deschamp. Now I can remember that students can put two and two together! They are critical thinkers! They are good writers!
Despite the cutbacks and the shortcuts, USM is still a university.
A comment on the first opinion piece: I am troubled by the attitude that the IHL requiring 4 units of core educational subjects is too hard. Call me crazy, but what else are high school students taking? I guess there'll be less time for "important" subjects like athletics, band, etc. News Flash to students: if you don't have time for academics, drop out of school! That applies to high schoolers, junior collegers, or USMers. If you care more about study hall than the classes you're supposed to be studying, then something's wrong.
I think this is a positive move to require more credits for admission to the IHL.
remember this... one in five former student printz writers do learn to write in complete sentences. now, if i could only learn to read. i guess that's why i'm in grad. school.
