just an observation, a couple of cents tossed onto the pavement
when looking at our contributors, those who are regulars, those who donot hide behind random monikers ( guilty as charged) very odd what one sees
those who post, those with a name, those are few and far between
but it is interesting to note that of the three main ones who have come out of the closet only one is from Southern Miss. We have one from Clemson with no connection to here. We have one from Vanderbilt who fled after working in polymer science. And we have one brave one here Amy of the AAUP.
Just an observation, a couple of cents tossed onto the pavement for all to ponder...
I post under my real initials. I'm sort of connected to USM (former staff, former adjunct this past fall, would come back if things change.) Somebody referred to me as "the mysterious LVN" When I said, "why mysterious?" he said, "Nobody know what it means." So, I can't help it if you were absent that day.

I think there have been others from USM who have used their names (in fact, I am sure of it), but I can certainly understand why others at USM and in Hattiesburg are frightened to do so. Even with tenure, it is scary to think of taking on the President of the university, especially one who has so many powerful backers, and especially when the public at large (including the student body) seem indifferent or hostile. The bravery of those at USM who ARE willing to use their names is therefore all the more noteworthy and worthy of respect. These people are real heroes/heroines, and anyone who cares about academic integrity in this country is greatly in their debt.

For whatever it may be worth, I agree with this completely.

I agree with Invictus, But I am a faculty at USM and I hide behind a mask for my own personal reasons. If you know the history of the Green Hornet and his great uncle, you know the legend of the other masked man who hid behind the mask. The mask offers protection, as well as allowing one to do things one might not be able to under these circumstances ........

I did not "flee" from USM...I was offered a better job with more $$. If that is your definition of fleeing, then I stand in company with the best of them!
Plus I'm still a graduate student at USM, so my connection remains. Get your facts straight, dude.

Here are the ones I remember:
Ellen Weinauer (current English prof--fairly regular poster) Jim Hollandsworth (former prof and administrator) Mark Miller (current prof and former administrator--posted a defense of Economic Development) Stan Hauer (current English prof and former LA administrator--posted recently) David Johnson (a regular poster and grad student) Rachel Quinlivan (alum) Charles Noblin (former prof) Mandy Stringer (Gary's Stringer's daughter)
Just because someone isn't currently at USM doesn't mean they don't have a very important stake in what's going on. Trust me on that one.
