Cost of an ad in the HA
Permalink Closed

I just called the HA to see how much it might cost to place in ad in the Sunday paper.  A full-page color ad would cosy $3850.13; a full-page black and white ad would cost $3350.13.  The circulation of the Sunday HA is just under 26,000.  This information gives us an idea of the kind of money Shelby's supporters are willing (and able) to spend.

Even if there were 250 contributors at the meeting, that would be only $13.40 each.  On balance, that's not a very high level of support.

I'm guessing that only a few of the really rich folks (perhaps including some who get contracts from USM) paid for the ad.  I would not be surprised if further such ads are in the works.

It occurs to me that someone on the board who has a nice design sense, good writing skills, and some internet expertise might design a separate web page that presents, in the most visually and rhetorically effective manner possible, a response to the points made by the Shelbyites.  It would then be possible for us to run a series of classified ads in multiple issues of the HA giving the link to that page.  (E.g.: "Want the true story of what's happening at USM?  Visit www.truth4usm.com.")   Such a page, which would be very professional-looking, would be a nice alternative (NOT [I stress, *NOT*] a replacement) site to this board -- a site to which we could direct people in the community who might not understand or appreciate the kind of humor and satire in which we all, on this board, sometimes indulge.  It would also be a site that would be blessedly free of trolls.

Just a thought . . .

Good idea USM Symphathizer. Glad to see people on the board thinking about ways to get the truth out. I think that it also needs to be remembered that most of the business people buy ads in the HA on a regular basis. They get large discounts on ads because of this - think the cost goes down proportionally. So they probably didn't pay full price for a full page ad....Anybody out there know someone....Or perhaps they may know of a business who realizes the full implications of what is happening and would sponsor or pay at least half the cost of a reduced price ad.

An occasional small print advertisement, pointing to a website, would be more cost effective than buying one full-page ad in the American.

Good idea.
