Yes, it didn't make any sense to me without the list...can anyone help?
The most positive news is that the University has a faculty willing to fight for academic integrity. That was the heart of the G&S situation and that is what is going on now. I am tired of being called a detractor (as was done in a recent issue of Talon by the president of the alumni association) just because I recognize there are things that need to be fixed.

How much do you want to bet that the list is the one handed out at the Paving Plant Putsch?

I missed that citation in the talon: can you get it -- or is it onlne?
It was in the Winter 2005 issue in the "Notes From Home" column written by Bob Pierce. In it he refered to the problems as "a feud" and "a failure to submit reports". He also refered to those that discussed such items as "detractors".

Thanks, I'll look for it. Any clue as to who Bob Pierce is?
Every accomplishment cited by the letter writer has received full coverage in Hattiesburg news media. Perhaps he doesn't follow the Hattiesburg news as closely as he thinks.
Not a tool, but a guy supporting a family. Remember he has to work directly for the little twit and doesn't have tenure protecting him. Just like other staff members. So understand his situation and go easy on him.
Not only do I agree with your assertion concerning staff speaking out, but I'd also like to point out that tenure does not protect anyone at USM. It was only a little over a year ago when Shelby's infamous temper proved that he has no regard for tenure.
Point taken, and I am sure Thames' disregard for tenure exist only to the extent that it affects him. No doubt the great industrialist Thames - oh, I'm sorry I forgot he was a professor - has hidden behind tenure to save his a$$ a time or two (simply speculation on my part).
Right on. Tenure and money. He should have been fired for his escapades, sexual and otherwise, eons ago. The idea that a man of his caliber can be President of the this University boggles the mind.
Yes, Virginia, there are a lot of positive things going on at USM. (And I will note that the writer of the HA letter did not attribute the positives to SFT & SFT alone, as do some folks.) I'll offer that the positive things that USM does constitute the reason that most of us around this place feel that USM is worth fighting for. We don't need to chop it down or play one part against another. If USM really is to go "to the top" it needs positive leadership to go along with the positive things that faculty, students, folks in student services, etc. are doing on an everyday basis to better serve the people of Mississippi!
