I was as pleased as anyone here to see the nursing story finally break yesterday in the Hat Am. If I hadn't had so many tests to grade, I might have gotten a scoop, but I don't have a whole lot of regrets about that. Liberty and Power is really for opinion pieces.
I did try to supply some background that's been mentioned on this board, but wasn't included in the article because only Dean Fos would speak for the record.

Robert:
You are really good. A nice synopsis of the issue. ONe small correction: Hudson's, the company that rented Albertson's, was selling furniture in that building but it has a permanent building in the same mall and has stores all over the state. It is a reclaimation business, recycling out of date or slightly damaged fgood which it buys and resells. Actually a pretty good local business story.
I am curious to know where you got the information on Mader -- this is news to me.

That was my thought also, Robert. It's spring break and raining in H'burg. Bored people will post anything to get excitement going. Later they can use it to down play your credibility, much like what happened to the Saucier letter.
Thanks Robert and thanks to Kevin Walters. The L AND P IS GREAT! Please everyone, take the time to read it...well worth it. Finally, out of the closet. Hope more comes of this....surely somebody is listening. As an addition to the Albertson's building problem, the Harkins Hall building has serious mold/fungal problems from being essentially air tight, no exchange ventilation, windows do not open (this was built in 1975 when energy conservation was priority), this is compounded by our frequent hot water leaks, leaving as much as 2-3 inches on the floor of the building (both floors). So carpet is soaked with hot water and becomes a secondary "nursery" for our pathogens. This was the primary reason for reqesting new builidng during our CCNE national visitation at USM. Of couuse, as soon as received our full accreditation notice, nothing else has been done on the architectual drawings nor has anything even been said, no committees, nothing. Next thing we know, Hudson's is moving in furniture.
As usual, there is much more to the story! Sure wish the story could have featured the only people who really know what they are talking about, namely NURSES, nurse administrator, faculty, etc. WHy just FOs? Not appropriate, will see how that flies. I don't even know him. No students should certainly not feel that they cannot speak to the media, they never have in the past, nursing or non nursing.
Robert, as always a great article. But, I need to give you some additional info.
My spies in College of Health say:
"whose new Dean, Joan Exline, was chosen in a rigged search (Exline herself was on the search committee, and the "faculty" representative was none other than Angie Dvorak, the notorious and now-departed VP for Research). Exline has since moved on to work directly with her sponsor, Shelby Thames, as a Special Assistant; she now frequently shows her complete ignorance of accreditation procedures, which she is supposed to be in charge of."
Exline was appointed acting Dean, because of a failed search for a new dean. She later applied for the Dean's position during the next search. She was not selected for the top 3 (positions) interview slots, so as a " consolation prize" SFT appointed her to the current positions she now holds. Fos became the new dean. In addition your last sentence is CORRECT.

And, ....it was the faculty and the nursing program that paid the price. It might be a good idea for the reporter taking over from Kevin W to contact those alumni nursing students.
