do to make things better? Do you think he/she would unconsolidate the colleges? What about the puppet deans, would they be replaced? What about the unqualified appointments and darling Dana?
A new president could treat his faculty and staff with courtesy and respect. He would defend them against outside influences, instead of aligning himself with those influences against them. He could understand that he serves the university, he does not embody it. He could reconsider the current alignment of colleges with consultation and input from the faculty. He would return Dr. Grimes to teaching and Dr. Malone to the private sector and Ms. Mader to Jackson. The provost search would become meaningful. SACS would receive his intense attention. There would be no Next Stupid Thing to worry about.
Assuming that a new president was qualified, intelligent, and had a few people skills (i.e., asumming s/he was unlike Shelby), just by showing up on campus s/he would immediately improve morale. Faculty, staff, and students would feel there was a future and would want to work together in as many ways as possible to undo the damage wrought by Shelby. Recruitment and retention of faculty and staff and students would all improve. The community, glad to see the turmoil over, might increase its donations and other kinds of support. The slogan of the day would be: "There's nowhere to go but up!"
Dana should step down and actually go wherever Daddy goes - she doesn't belong at USM any more than he does. She also should apologize to about 20 specific people who she has terrorized in the past 3 years. She continues to terrorize current faculty and College members. She is no different than her father. Thank goodness Pierce stayed the Dean - if Dana has her way, he won't be there for long.
I think Dana may actually be worse than daddy...she just isn't in a position to show it. What kind of person takes a job as dept. chair at the same univ their father is the president of? It looks like she was not competent enough to get a job like this elsewhere so daddy found her a job. My mother has offered me a job where she is top dog, but I won't take it...for this very reason.
