The following is a revised post (with corrected typos, sorry I was in a hurry the first time.) I made on Sunday afternoon to the thread started by Kudzu King. So, Kudzu King, you out there? Please below and respond. I want to know if you're "for real" or just another fake. Our goals may be the same......getting rid of SFT.

Thames only proposed the changes, the IHL is the body that made the changes. Thames is not your problem, so don't go running to the IHL to fix your problem. The problem for all of us is the IHL. Until we have a meaningful overhaul of the IHL, USM will never be treated fairly. Understand that the IHL is just another state body that is biased towards South Mississippi. Do you wonder why UM and MSU never have problems like USM is always facing, because they do not have the IHL working against them. Thames is only one man, he could not possibly create all the problems we are having in Hattiesburg. He is a pawn to the IHL. To the Business community it looks like he's standing up for USM, and in his heart he believes he is, but I tell you he's beeing played for a fool by Klumb and the IHL."
Kudzu King,
On Sunday, I took the family to church, had a nice lunch and took some afternoon time to relax and stayed away from the message board and behold! A new player (you) joins the message board. Kudzu King, I agree with some if not most of all of your message above. We both have an agenda, mine is getting rid of SFT, what's yours?
If you've gone back in the message board you will know I too am not a fan of SFT and along with Invictus believe in the IHL using Shelby as a pawn. Solutions to USM problems must be handled one at a time. SFT is the first problem. IHL may have to wait, besides Klumb will turn over the IHL leadership soon.
Kudzu King, this week SFT may get evaluated by the IHL. You MUST use every influence you have on Eagle Talk and rally the athletic side. Do you know Dr. Lucas? Convince him to speak out. Do you know Bobby Chain?....talk is that Chain and SFT are NOT friends and his support would greatly help the cause. Get him to speak out. Who else can you influence?

You're right...Forgot, not everyone is on spring break....................
Nevertheless, even though students may be on spring break, it doesn't mean faculty stop working. Musicians are still practicing several hours a day for upcoming performances--their equivalent of research. Scholars and researchers are in libraries all over the world. It is a time when one can get an 8-10 hour day in on research/scholarship/performance.--as is the summer when faculty don't teach but still "work" all summer.

Sorry Mewjician, I was referring to Kudzu King, who indicated he was a business person (not faculty) who had just joined the board....................
I have been out of town on Business for several days and have just returned home.
Green Hornet, I assure you that I am sincere in what I have posted on this site. I have not happy with Thames, and I think his term is coming to an end. I think that that he will remain in office until next fall, when the SACS probation is lifted. He may step down then, or we may have to wait until his term expires. Either way we are on the down hill side of his term as president.
Now, I would like to clearify a few things that has been speculated about me. I am a Hattiesburg businessman. My only priority in this how shenanigan is the welfare of the University. I could care less about the AAUP or anthing of the sort.
I am not a conspiracy theorist in the tradional sense. When I am saying that the college board is against USM, I mean that they negelect and underfund USM, not that they are out to destroy USM (but, I won't rule that out).
I will say this, be very careful who you choose to align yourself with in this fight against Thames. Many of you named Bobby Chain as an aly. Please, anyone who has known Chain (on a business level) for more than about five minutes, knows that Bobby is out for Bobby. If Thames is removed, Bobby is going to expect something from it if it happens. He turned on Thames, remember these two were thicker than theives a few years ago. He didn't care about you guys until his interest or influence was threatened. Had Thames not balked him on the Lott Building Construction time frame, he'd still be in Thames corner.
Lucas has little to no influnce in the business and athletics community in Hattiesburg, he's a nice man. But, many in those circles felt that Lucas held USM back during the late 80's and early 90's. Not saying this is right, but it's the preception of many.
I don't think calling the college board will do any good, if you guys want to call someone call your state representatives. Maybe they will listen.
Can you explain why you think that writing to the IHL is pointless? Since I write to them often, if your perception is correct I will save myself the effort. Thanks.
Kudzu King, I agree with you about calling our state representative, but in my opinion more action is called for with the legislature. It is much easier than people think to get a law changed and that would be the best way to solve the problem.
Before you try to change the IHL however, you must decide what you want from them because a takeover by the Legislature could be a double edged sword. The IHL is probably preferable to the Legislature when it comes to running schools.
It has been suggested several places on this board that what is really wanted is for the faculty to have more direct contact and input with the IHL board. Also one of the requirements for being a member of the board should be that they have good knowledge and some success in their background with educational institutions as well as being successful in business. I was horrified when I realized that no one on the board had any real experience in running our state schools. To place a person on the IHL board as a political appointment for a reward for services rendered to a Governor can be likened to turning a bull loose in a china shop.
Your state representative can suggest ways to get the Education committee to remedy the problems with the IHL board. He will need organized help from you to do this. There are most certainly enough unhappy campers to easily accomplish all of the above. Please reqroup and target the Legislature with your efforts for change.

Thanks for the response. I agree that any alliance with Bobby Chain would be short lived and only if it benefits Bobby Chain. I will have to give your response further thought before deciding what to post. In addition, the IHL will be meeting tomorrow and we will have to see what happens tomorrow. (see my prediction for March 17th).
I'd just like to comment that should the Legislature "meddle" in the affairs of the IHL board, it would be "undue political influence" just as people are accusing the Paving Plant Putsch group of attempting to do. Remember that SACS backhanded the entire Mississippi university system in the 1930s because the governor (Bilbo) was "meddling."
remember, the IHL is a constitutionally mandated body. all the legislature could do is pass a constitutional amendment which would then have to be approved by the voters of the state.
