Another great article...thanks to Jameela Lares, Bill Scarborough and Anne Wallace for their quotes. This part is troubling, though:
Drews was sought out to co-host the meeting by Lisa Mader, Southern Miss spokeswoman who said she was contacted by another organizer.
So, Lisa Mader did or did not have a hand in organizing this meeting??? Looks like she did from this quote. She needs to work harder on keeping her story straight, that's for sure!
My son is studying the Civil Rights movement right now.
Early on, Booker T. Washington had suggested that African Americans should get a good technical education so that they could be productive. W.E.B. DuBois refuted this, saying that they should get a good liberal arts education so that they could be leaders. In his words, "I don't want to make the man into a carpenter, I want to make the carpenter into a man."
I have a question. If this meeting is to "spread good news about USM" then why aren't faculty and staff and the media invited, to A) commend the faculty and staff on a job well done and B) so the media can help spread it? Notice Bonnie Drews has kept her mouth shut. Do you think she spoke too soon and too often?
I just went back and looked at some press when Fleming was being ousted and what he was trying to say. He warned us. Just look at the clips. He apparently did not take them on because he did not want a firestorm. The rest of us didn't do anything much to help. Wish we could relive that episode. It's all about control, and the folks who grabbed it were led by Carl Nicholson and assisted by Krandall Howell, Little Krandall, Bob Mixon, Bobby Dews, the Warrens (good buddies of Governor Musgrove, who had already packed the IHL against us) and then a few gullible types like Klumb and the OLD Miss and Miss State folks. Remember what that IHL looked like 5-4, OM and MSU to three others, none of the other three being USM. Folks this has been coming for a long time because USM challenged the status quo in the late 1990s under Fleming who would not allow us to continue to be short-shrifted. Anyway, that's my opinion. But do some research and let me have your conclusion. This is about control. Always has been.

Can you share some relevant quotations with us? Thanks.

What? Surely my eyes are playing tricks on me. Two of the big ole bidness people that are organizing this thing tonight, the Warrens, are Democrats? What? Surely you must be mistaken? How could that be? Ha!

Lawrence Warren is a road contractor....totally dependent (almost) on state contracts
Road contractors are freinds of all governors, highway commissioners, etc
One thing I am reading is where he held a press conference the day before he left office to respond to some statements by Klumb and he said the IHL is "dysfunctional and needs to be fixed." He went on to say early in that meeting that he did not need to go into detail about why the IHL wanted him gone, saying "I think we all know what is happening here." There is another story where he was badgered by Nicholson to hire Pooky's brother as police chief at USM. The guy was working--when it pleased him--at Jackson State at the time and Big Jim, Carl's friend, wanted Bolton at USM (so they would know at all times what was going on.) Fleming refused. Fleming also refused to give the Athletics Foundation a mil when we were all getting our budgets cut by total of around 14 mil. Giannini did not like that and whined about it to everyone who could still stand to hear it from him. Fleming told someone who repeated it later that there were three reasons he was pushed out of USM: one was not enough money and support for Athletics (not another mil, I guess), and one was that he had fought too hard for the Gulf Coast programs, and the last that he had spent too much money getting technology for the campus. Nicholson and Warren and Mixon spent a lot of time whipping up support to get Fleming fired and met with all IHL members to see if it could be done. Frank Pickering was in on this and will admit to anyone what happened and why. He is suing ST and the whole rat pack. I have a good bit of information through this thing he has started.

Donald this an an interesting "covert" history you are sharing . . . . please continue. You fact checkers out there -- google your hearts out and let's do some dot-connecting . . .
Somebody who knows him ought to get some background from Pickering. Pickering was a fundraiser for business. I don't know him. Some of you may. Seen him around but never made his acquaintance. This is really all I know. But I do know we were warned and we let that thing happen.
The problem i had was with pood's guest editorial's vagueness. I'm not too sure that he actually used a fact that WILL be true tomorrow. Everything he says is true right now, but there's nothing to say Shelboo won't flip it on us again.
Before you respond, please re-read both Pood entries in the HA today.
